Hyrule Castle is a location in Breath of the Wild, where it serves as the final dungeon. It also makes appearances in Age of Calamity, and Tears of the Kingdom, where it is the fifth dungeon.

Breath of the Wild

Hyrule Castle is the longest dungeon in the game, and contains some of the most difficult enemies encountered. Hyrule Castle is one of the largest seen thus far in the Zelda series. The outside section spans a significant area, containing many pathways and sections that lead into the castle and other surrounding areas. The inner section of the castle contains many rooms and hallways. The castle is in a decrepit and ruined condition; with much of it being destroyed and covered with malice after Calamity Ganon's takeover 100 years ago.

Once Link is past the front gates, the Sheikah Slate produces a 3D map of the castle detailing its outer pathways, and once the interior is reached, the map switches to show the inner halls. The castle is the only place in Hyrule where Link cannot directly teleport from, as the map menu prompts Link to abandon the location by pressing (x), which transports Link south of the front gates. If in Hyrule Castle to purely defeat Ganon, an astonishingly large portion of the dungeon can be bypassed by using Revali's Gale. If not, there are various paths, including waterfalls which can be swum up with the Zora Armor.

Years before the Calamity, there was a Guidance Stone that was originally located within Hyrule Castle before it was moved to its present location.[1] at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. The original location of the stone, as well as the castle's Travel Gate are unknown, as the only Travel Gate available in the castle is the one at the Saas Ko'sah Shrine underneath the castle at the Docks.

Trivia

  • Despite brimming with Guardians, the castle grounds are entirely devoid of Guardian Stalkers. The Guardians at the castle are exclusively Decayed Guardians, Guardian Turrets and Guardian Skywatchers. This may be accounted by the relatively small floor room areas that would allow their movement. In-universe, could be due to Zelda disabling or destroying active Guardian Stalkers on her way to Calamity Ganon.

Tears of the Kingdom

Main article: Hyrule Castle (Tears of the Kingdom)

After the events of the Upheaval, Hyrule Castle has risen from the ground level and hovers about the Hyrule Castle Chasm. The Castle serves as the 5th major dungeon in the game and it is the location where Link battles with Phantom Ganon.
