Link is initially unable to reach Korok Forest through the Lost Woods, as the whole forest is enveloped in gloom, making the Lost Woods impassible and rendering the Great Deku Tree and all the Koroks in the forest unthinking and immobile, as if they were statues. To reach the forest, he must pass through the Depths and Ascend through the column in Korok Grove. Once there, he must return to the Depths through the Deku Tree Chasm and defeat the Gloom Spawn and Phantom Ganon in the closed-off area beneath the Deku Tree to restore Korok Forest, the Lost Woods and all its inhabitants to normal.

Once the inhabitants have been restored, an entrance will appear in the Deku Tree that can be accessed by walking east from the travel gate for the Musanokir Shrine, and then north up a ramp.
