Story

The Wind Waker starts by telling the tale of Ocarina of Time and the Great Flood. After Ganondorf is defeated, the Hero of Time disappears, never to be seen again. When evil rose, no one was present to face it, and Hyrule was flooded by the goddesses to protect its people. We learn that on a certain island, when a boy comes of age, he is garbed in the clothing of the Hero of Time. Our story begins on Link's birthday, his coming of age. After a mysterious bird, called the Helmaroc King, drops a girl into the island's forest, it snatches his sister, Aryll, off a bridge and flies away with her. The girl from the forest is named Tetra and she captains a pirate ship. Link catches a ride as a swabby while the pirates sail to the Forsaken Fortress, the lair of the bird. Link is shot out of a catapult into the fortress, and makes his way up it, having to retrieve his sword which he lost when he was launched at the fortress. But when he reaches the top, he's thrown off and into the water by the Helmaroc King, but is saved by The King of Red Lions, a talking boat. He agrees to help Link on his quest to save his sister and stop the ressurected Ganondorf. Link finds the 3 Pearls of the Goddesses, which raise the Tower of the Gods- a tower designed by the gods to prove the worthiness of heroes. Inside, Link proves his worth and is able to go below the Great Sea to the submerged Hyrule Castle. Inside, everything is frozen in time. Link pulls the Master Sword from its pedestal in a hidden chamber beneath a statue of the Hero of Time, and time begins to flow again in the castle. He goes back to the Forsaken Fortress to save his sister and confront the evil Ganondorf. He sets his sister free, and defeats the Helmaroc King. At the top he confronts Ganondorf in his chamber, but learns that the Master Sword has lost its power to vanquish evil, and the dragon, Valoo, from Dragon Roost Island saves him and Tetra, who appeared at the fortress to help, before Ganondorf could defeat them. Link and Tetra return to the submerged Hyrule Castle, and they learn the King of Red Lions is controlled by the King of Hyrule. Using a missing piece of Tetra's necklace, she is learned to have been a descendant of Princess Zelda, and controls the Triforce of Wisdom. Link goes to awaken the Earth and Wind Sages, who restore the Master Sword back to its original strength. Link then finds the shattered pieces of the Triforce of Courage hidden by the Hero of Time after the conclusion of Ocarina of Time. He then returns to the submerged Hyrule and infiltrates Ganon's Tower to find Zelda and then confront Ganondorf with the restored Master Sword and the Light Arrows. The King of Hyrule appears and touches the newly regathered Triforce saying he wishes the old Hyrule to be drowned in the water, along with Ganondorf. The Triforce appeals to this wish, and as water slowly begins to rain down upon them, Link defeats Ganondorf by thrusting the Master Sword threw his forehead - turning him to stone. The two then float in bubbles to the surface leaving behind Ganondorf's remains, the Master Sword and The King of Hyrule.

Epilogue

Link, Tetra, and the Pirates sail away from Outset Island into the sunset to search for new lands.
