Link (grandson)
Aryll (granddaughter)

Link's Grandmother, more commonly known as Grandma, is the grandmother of Link and Aryll, found on Outset Island in The Wind Waker.

The Wind Waker

Grandma is a sweet, lovable old woman who lives with her two grandchildren. She loves her grandchildren very much, and enjoys cooking their favorite food and soup for them, Elixir Soup.

At the start of the quest, Link will speak with Grandma to get the Hero's Clothes.[1] She states that it is a tradition that when a boy becomes the same age that the famed Hero of Time was when he saved the world, they have to wear his signature green tunic and outfit to symbolize them becoming a man.[2][3] It is tradition to only wear the clothes for a single day, but because of Aryll's kidnapping, Link never has a chance to change out of the clothes, wearing them for the remainder of his quest. In the olden days, the day when a boy gets to wear the green tunic also marked the day where they were taught the ways of the sword to prepare them for battle.[4] Although at the start of the quest, they live in a time of piece and don't have to worry about such practices.[5][6]

Grandma also talks about the family shield, which hangs on the wall in Grandma's House.[7] Grandma is planning on throwing a party for Link, inviting the entire town. She asks Link to go and get Aryll.[8]

After the Helmaroc King appears on the island and drops Tetra into the Forest of Fairies, Link is able to get the Hero's Sword from Orca. When talking to her Grandma, she is shocked to see the sword on Link's back.[9][10]

After Link finds and saves Tetra, Aryll is kidnapped by the Helmaroc King. Link wants to heads on a quest with Tetra to save Aryll, but he first needs to find a shield. Grandma notices that Link seems worries and wonders what happened to Aryll.[11][12]. Grandma gives Link the Hero's Shield that has Link's family crest on it.[13] Grandma becomes such as she is really concerned as to what has happened to Aryll.[14][15][16] As Link leaves Outset Island on Tetra's Pirate Ship, Grandma can be seen sadly waving goodbye from her front porch.

Elixir Soup

Later in the game, when Link returns to retrieve Nayru's Pearl from Jabun, he sees that his grandmother is deeply ill.[17] Sue-Belle tells Link that ever since he left, Grandma has been depressed and rarely leaves the house.[18] Link gets information from the town's expert elder, Sturgeon, on how to cure her using fairy dust, and gives Grandma a Fairy to revive her.[19] When she is well again, she decides that she can't help Link being on an adventure to save Aryll, and tries to help out by agreeing to make Link her Elixir Soup whenever he comes to visit.[20][21] Grandma helps Link as much as she can throughout his journey, sending him all the Rupees she has in letters, telling him how much she loves him, and wishing him safety and good luck.

You and your sister, Aryll, are trying so hard to be strong, and I've just been sitting here, moaning and worrying... I'm your grandmother... I'm the one who should be taking care of you... I'm so sorry, [Link]. I haven't even considered what you must be going through. I'm a terrible grandma... [Link], this is all I have to give you right now. You can keep it in your empty bottle! You and your sister love this soup, don't you? If you run out, I can make it for you any time you like. Grandma's going to try to be strong, so you try to be strong, too! But don't do anything reckless! All right?" — Grandma, The Wind Waker.
