His ancestor was famed hero, who defeated Volvagia using the Megaton Hammer. Darunia eventually awakens as the Sage of Fire after Link completes the Fire Temple and saves the Gorons from being fed to Volvagia.

Appearance

Darunia is a Goron with dull yellow skin and long, spiky hair around his neck and head. He has black markings of the Goron crest on his upper arms, and wears two green armbands around his wrists. He has face paint in the form of two horizontal white lines on either cheek, and has deep blue eyes.

Ocarina of Time

Child Era

In Ocarina of Time, Darunia is the leader of the Gorons, and is a strict but insightful leader capable of seeing the greater cause of problems. Darunia was eventually approached by Ganondorf, who demanded that Darunia relinquished the Goron's Ruby, one of the three Spiritual Stones, or he would blockade Dodongo's Cavern and cut off the Gorons' main source of food; despite the consequences, Darunia refused as he knew the Goron's Ruby was too important for Ganondorf to possess. Darunia was eventually forced to lock himself away in his room to protect the Ruby, as the Gorons were becoming so hungry they starting viewing the Spiritual Stone as tasty.

Darunia is eventually met by Link, who had travelled to Goron City to receive the Stone.[1] He learns of the plight from the other Gorons and plays Zelda's Lullaby to gain access to the chief's room; While Darunia is initially furious that the Royal Family of Hyrule sent a boy as their messenger, he lightens up after Link plays Saria's Song to cheer him up. Darunia agreed to give Link the Stone if he proved himself worthy, by clearing out Dodongo's Cavern of the monsters infesting it[2]; to help him, he gives Link the Goron Bracelet. After Link has defeated King Dodongo and fulfilled his request, Darunia thanked Link, naming him his "Sworn Brother", and entrusted him with the Goron's Ruby.[3].

Adult Era

Sometime during Link's seven-year slumber, Darunia had a son, whom he also named Link in the Hero's honor.[4] When Ganondorf, now the King of Evil, abducted most of the Gorons with the intent to feed them to Volvagia, Darunia and his son were the only ones who evaded capture; instructing his son to remain in Goron City and ensure nobody followed him, Darunia journeyed to the Fire Temple to free his people, despite his fears that he wouldn't be able to do anything without the Megaton Hammer. Along the way, he ran into Link again, and was overjoyed to see him; However, he understood that it wasn't a time for talking, and asked Link to help him free the Gorons. After Link had done so and defeated Volvagia, the two of them are taken to the Chamber of Sages, where Darunia awakens as the Sage of Fire. He thanks his Sworn Brother for saving his people for the second time, and presents him with the Fire Medallion as a token of his favor.[5][6]

During the finale, after Link defeats Ganon, Darunia and the other Sages seal him away in the Evil Realm. During the credits, Darunia can be seen atop Death Mountain, watching the view alongside the other Sages.

The Wind Waker

While Darunia does not make a physical appearance, a stained-glass mural of him can be seen in the basement of Hyrule Castle, alongside the other Sages.
