"Agitha had a dream last night. Butterflies surrounded Agitha and lifted her up to the sky. As she waved to the people below in Castle Town, she could see so many people, some waving back, others staring wide-eyed. Agitha flew in a big circle above Hyrule Field and the butterflies formed into a bed beneath her and said, "Let's play again..." Soon they faded away and she woke up in her own bed. Ohh... Agitha wants so badly to fly in the sky..."

— Agitha's Letter[3]

Agitha is a character from Twilight Princess.

Twilight Princess

Agitha is an energetic, ten-year-old girl who lives alone in a large castle-like house within the South Road of Castle Town.[4] Agitha is known as the princess of the insect kingdom, a nickname she gave herself and likes.[5] She has a great passion for bugs of all kind, but while she collects many different insects, Agitha is an avid butterfly collector.[6] As a result of this, her dream is to invite all of the Golden Bugs to her house for a ball.[7] She can either be found at her home or at the Southern Gate of Castle Town during the daytime.

When Link first talks to Agitha as a Human, she mistakes him for a small variety of insects depending on the tunic he is wearing. If he talks to her with the Hero's Clothes, she thinks he is a grasshopper.[8] If Link talks to Agitha with the Zora Armor, she confuses him for a jewel beetle,[9] and if he wears the Magic Armor, he is confused with a scarab beetle.[10] After noticing Link is a human, Agitha quickly becomes under the impression that he enjoys bugs just like her due to his clothing.[11] Forgetting to be formal, Agitha introduces herself as the princess of the bug kingdom and tells Link her name.[1] She explains that she invited the twenty-four Golden Bugs to her ball,[12] but she does not know if they are lost since none of them have shown up yet.[13][14] Agitha then requests that if Link sees any of the Golden Bugs that he brings them to her castle and tells them the princess awaits.[15] She asks that if he has a bug with him currently to give it to her as her ball must begin.[16]

When Link gives Agitha his first Golden Bug, she asks him if he actually went bug hunting for her.[17] However, she doubted Link would and assumes people consider her a poor-mannered princess.[18] As a result of this, Agitha will share her happiness with Link the next time he brings a Golden Bug.[19] She then rewards him with the Big Wallet, which can hold up to 600 Rupees.[2][20] She wonders if there is a partner for the bug somewhere close by where Link has found that one.[21] If Link finds a partner for any bug and becomes a pair, she informs him she will be able to share great happiness with him.[22][23] Bringing any Golden Bugs afterwards to her will reward Link with 50 Rupees for one of each pair of Golden Bugs and 100 Rupees if he brings her a Golden Bug that completes a pair.[24] If Link has collected Golden Bugs and leaves Agitha's Castle without giving all of them to her, she lets out a low growl and whispers how she knows he has bugs.[25] Also, when Link lies and says that he has none with him, Agitha sniffs him and senses he has bugs due to the Golden Bug's pheromones on Link.[26]

After Link has given her all of the Golden Bugs but one, Agitha informs him that only one bug hasn't shown up to her ball yet and is so excited that she doesn't know whether to spin a cocoon or fly into a lamp.[27] She requests that once Link has found the last one he should get the bug back to her immediately and not dawdle.[28] After Link gives her the last Golden Bug, she is excited that all of the bugs have made it to the ball safely.[29] Giggling, she says how everyone has a partner and the bugs all look very happy.[30] Due to his hard work to obtain every Golden Bug, Link's efforts will forever be passed down in the insect kingdom.[31] Agitha asks him to accept the declaration of honorable citizenship and a memento with it.[32] She then gives Link the Giant Wallet, which holds up to 1,000 Rupees at a time.[33] After receiving his reward, Agitha explains if he wants to talk to the bugs again, he knows where to go.[34] If Link talks to her again, Agitha explains she is happy being surrounded by bugs.[35] She asks him to listen and if he can hear the happy calls of the bugs.[36]

During the daytime before finding all of the 24 Golden Bugs, Agitha can be found outside at the Southern Gate of Castle Town with her parasol and basket, trying to find bugs in the flowers.[37] If Link has not talked to her yet, she explains her ordeal about the Golden Bugs like she does at her castle. When spoken to afterwards, Agitha again explains that she has sent out invitations for her ball to the 24 Golden Bugs, but none of them have arrived yet.[38] If Link has found any bugs, she asks him to bring them to her castle on the other side of the gate instead of giving them to her at the field.[39] After Link has given her at least one bug, she informs him on how many Golden Bugs are at her castle.[40][41] Also, Agitha gives the total amount of bugs that Link has not given her and requests he does his best to find partners for the bugs that are not already paired up.[42]

When it is around sunset, Agitha walks back to Castle Town to return home. If Link speaks to her while she is heading home, Agitha says hello to him.[43] She then apologizes to Link because she is finished looking for bugs in the flowers.[44] However, if Link needs to see her, Agitha tells him he can simply visit her castle on the other side of the gate.[45] Link can also talk to her in his wolf form while she is at the gate. Unlike most characters, she is not afraid of Wolf Link. When he talks to her, Agitha says hello and thinks Link is a puppy.[46] She apologizes to him for not being able to speak puppy and asks if he would like to play.[47]

After Link has obtained the Mirror Shard from Snowpeak Ruins, the Postman can deliver a letter from Agitha titled "Agitha's Dream" to him if he has given her at least one Golden Bug. In the letter, she describes her dream last night where butterflies surrounded her and lifted her up to the sky. As she waved to the people below in Castle Town, she could see many people waving at her or staring. After flying in a big circle above Hyrule Field, the butterflies formed a bed beneath Agitha and said, "Let's play again..." The butterflies faded away, and she woke up in her bed, wishing to fly in the sky.[3][48] While the letter is not useful, it is a subtle reminder for Link to collect and give Agitha more Golden Bugs.[49]

Non-Canon Appearances

This section describes a subject that is or may be outside the core Zelda canon.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Agitha makes a small appearance in Nintendo's flagship fighting game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. In this game, Agitha can be unlocked randomly in the form of a trophy, along with a brief description of her: "A strange young girl who lives like a fairy-tale princess in Hyrule Castle Town. She has an eccentric attachment to Golden Bugs. In exchange for these bugs, Agitha gives you wallets and Rupees. Whether or not you actually have any bugs, Agitha suggests that you must be hiding them from her."

Hyrule Warriors

"She's a little girl who goes into battle with a parasol—and an army of gigantic, mystical insects."

Agitha is a playable character in Hyrule Warriors. Like in Twilight Princess, she is the self-proclaimed princess of the insect kingdom, late of the Era of Twilight.[50] Keeping a bright smile at all times, Agitha looks at the world through a sweeter lens than her allies.[51] She uses her parasol as her standard weapon and can also summon the Golden Bugs like a giant Stag Beetle and a swarm of Butterflies to attack enemies.[52] She is rescued by Lana when she is attacked by a horde of monsters, ultimately being recruited to the greater cause to stop Cia.[53]
