Deku Sticks are long, wooden poles. While the Kokiri Shopkeeper claims they are "gathered from the Great Deku Tree"OOT, more often they come from Deku Babas or Big Deku Babas, who stand upright when stunned and can be cut while this lasts to turn them into Deku Sticks.OOT Withered Deku Babas are always upright and are thus more easily turned into sticks.

Adult Link cannot use Deku Sticks, only Young Link. They are mostly used for lighting torches and burning spiderwebs, as they catch fire when put up against a lit torch. They burn out and disappear after a short time, so Link must light whatever he needs before that happens. They can be saved by putting them away before they burn out. The Deku Stick's second use is the same as the swords; they can kill enemies. They are more powerful than the Kokiri Sword, but unlike that item, they break. Usually after one hit, or if hit against a wall they will break instantly. They may be found in shops, pots, or after killing a Deku Baba.
Deku Sticks are used as basic fire-starters. Link can light a Deku Stick on fire using a lit torch, which will then light unlit torches and burn spider webs. They will burn out and break after burning for a short time, although Link can put the Deku Stick away to save it. Additionally, Deku Sticks can be used as weapons - they deal double damage compared to the Kokiri Sword, but will break after one hit.

Link can carry 10 Deku Sticks at the beginning of the game. He can increase this in two ways, both of which allow him to carry ten more sticks, to a potential maximum of 30:
Link can carry up to 10 Deku Sticks at the beginning of the game, but he can upgrade the capacity to 20, and then to 30, via the following upgrades:
#In the Lost Woods, in the area below the bridge connecting Kokiri Forest to Hyrule Field, there is a Business Scrub. Bounce back the nuts they launch and, once stunned, they will sell Link a Deku Nut capacity upgrade for 40 Rupees.

#Deep in the Lost Woods is the Forest Stage. If Link goes inside wearing the Skull Mask, the young Deku Scrubs will react. Then go and speak to the Forest Stage Leader, who will tell Link that all of the Deku Scrubs  agree that he looks like their totem, so they will reward him with a Deku Stick upgrade.
*A Business Scrub under the bridge connecting Kokiri Forest to Hyrule Field will sell Link an upgrade for 40 Rupees.
*If Link enters the Forest Stage while wearing the Skull Mask and then talks to the Forest Stage Leader, he will remark that Link resembles their totem, and rewards him with an upgrade.

In Majora's Mask, Deku Sticks work largely as they do in Ocarina of Time. Each standard Secret Grotto contains two Withered Deku Babas, which can be easily converted into Deku SticksMM. Link can only ever carry 10 Deku Sticks—there are no capacity upgrades.
Deku Sticks return in Majora's Mask, with the same properties as in Ocarina of Time - however, if Link carries a lit Deku Stick in the Stone Tower Temple, he will be attacked by Moths. Link can purchase Deku Sticks from the Trading Post for 10 Rupees, or he can obtain them from Withered Deku Babas.MM. Link can carry up to 10 Deku Sticks, although the capacity cannot be upgraded.

Deku Sticks are items from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. They can only be used by Young Link in the former game.

Ocarina of Time

Deku Sticks are long, wooden poles, with a few short branches and a single leaf. The shopkeeper of the Kokiri Shop claims that Deku Sticks are gathered from the Great Deku Tree[1], but they can also be obtained from Deku Babas, Big Deku Babas, and Withered Deku Babas - if Link stuns them, he can cut them while they remain upright to obtain Deku Sticks from their remains. Additionally, Deku Sticks are also found inside of Pots, or they can be bought from shops for 10 Rupees or Business Scrubs for 15 Rupees.

Link can carry up to 10 Deku Sticks at the beginning of the game, but he can upgrade the capacity to 20, and then to 30, via the following upgrades:

Majora's Mask

Deku Sticks return in Majora's Mask, with the same properties as in Ocarina of Time - however, if Link carries a lit Deku Stick in the Stone Tower Temple, he will be attacked by Moths. Link can purchase Deku Sticks from the Trading Post for 10 Rupees, or he can obtain them from Withered Deku Babas.[2]. Link can carry up to 10 Deku Sticks, although the capacity cannot be upgraded.
