Rauru is a supporting protagonist in Ocarina of Time. He is the Sage of Light, and the true form of Kaepora Gaebora.

Appearance

Rauru is an old, Hylian male, with a white manbun and beard that stretches across his face, between the nose and mouth. He has deep blue eyes, and wears an orange robe with scarlet and white outer garments. The Triforce is emblazoned on the center of his garments, surrounded by deep purple petals.

Ocarina of Time

Past

During the Era of Chaos and shortly before the kingdom of Hyrule was established by the Royal Family of Hyrule, Rauru built the Temple of Time over the remains of the Sealed Temple in Faron Woods, with the aim of protecting the Triforce from the war. Rauru named the Temple after the legends of a hero who had travelled between time periods to defeat a great evil, and chose to remain in the Chamber of Sages as the Sage of Light in order to watch over the Triforce - he would take the form of an owl, Kaepora Gaebora, to watch over Hyrule. The knowledge of the Sacred Realm was passed down only to the Sheikah, and as a result, Rauru faded into obscurity.

Adult

While he would aid Link numerous times during the child era via his owl form, Rauru does not appear in person until Link pulls the Master Sword from the Pedestal of Time, caring for the boy as he remained in stasis. When Link turned 16, Rauru awoke Link from his slumber, greeting him and explaining the past events. He states that Link must awaken the other Sages so they can seal Ganondorf and his evil away in the Sacred Realm, and gives Link the Light Medallion as a token of his favor. Later, once Link has awakened five of the seven Sages, Rauru instructs Link to return to the Temple of Time to meet someone; that someone turns out to be Sheik, who reveals her true identity as Zelda, the seventh Sage.

After Zelda is captured by Ganondorf, Rauru instructs Link to save her and assures him that he and the other Sages will support him, creating a bridge into Ganon's Castle. In the finale, when Link defeats Ganon, Rauru and the other Sages seal him away in the Evil Realm, liberating Hyrule from the King of Evil's tyranny.

The Wind Waker

While Rauru makes no physical appearance in this game, a stained-glass depiction of him can be seen in the basement of Hyrule Castle, alongside the other Sages.
