Its use is to play the various songs in the game, and is the only instrument in this game, unlike the Fairy Ocarina in Ocarina of Time. While in a form other than Hylian Link, the instrument changes into one that better suits his new form. Deku Pipes for a Deku Scrub, Drums for a Goron, and a Guitar for a Zora.
Alternate Forms
While in a form other than Hylian Link, the instrument changes into one that better suits his new form. On some occasions, the powers of songs will only work on one of these instruments.
Songs
The Ocarina of Time's main use is to play songs, and thus there are plenty of songs found within the two games for Link to play.

Zelda's Lullaby
This song is one of the most used songs in the entire game of Ocarina of Time. It is taught to Link by Impa right after Princess Zelda has told Link that he needs to collect all three Spiritual Stones. It will come in handy throughout the entire game.

How to Play it
Zelda's Lullaby is played by using only the C-stick. The melody goes like this: c-left, c-up, c-right, c-left, c-up, c-right. It is a fairly basic tune, and will easily be remembered after playing it a few times. In the 3DS remake of the game, the melody is: X, A, Y, X, A, Y.

Uses
Zelda's Lullaby is the most used song throughout the entire game. It is used to open the entrance to Zora's Domain as a child, change the water level in the Water Temple, put signs back together, to prove to people that Link is connected to the Royal Family, to make fairies appear in areas where Navi turns green, and to open the Royal Family's tomb in the Kakariko Graveyard.

Saria's Song
Saria's Song is a song that allows Saria to talk to Link even if he is on the other side of Hyrule. Saria teaches Link this song after she learns the he has a job to do and will probably not be around the forest very much. Saria will often give Link hints as to where to go and who to see next.

How to Play it
Saria's Song is one of the first songs learnt throughout the course of the game, and thus it is very easy to play and remember the melody. In the N64 version of the game, it is played like this: c-down, c-right, c-left, c-down, c-right, c-left. In the 3DS remake of the game, Saria's Song is played like this: R, Y, X, R, Y, X.

Uses
Saria's Song is used so that Saria can talk to Link even if he is not in the Kokiri Forest. In the early stages of the game, she will give Link useful hints that can guide him through the first couple of dungeons. Later in the game when Link is an adult, he must return to the forest so he can go to the Forest Temple. However, Mido will block Link's way through the forest and say only people who know Saria can go through. By playing Saria's Song, Mido will be forced to accept Link knows Saria, and thus lets him pass.

Song of Time
The Song of Time is featured in both The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. In Ocarina of Time, is is taught to Link by Princess Zelda telepathicly after Ganondorf had attacked Hyrule Castle. Her and Impa are seen by Link galloping away from the castle on horseback. Zelda will see Link and toss the Ocarina of Time into the moat. Once Link goes and gets it, she will teach it to him telepathicly. In Majora's Mask, it is also taught to Link by Princess Zelda telepathicly. Once Link stuns Skull Kid with a bubble at the top of the Clock Tower, he will drop the Ocarina of Time, and once Link picks it up Zelda will teach it to him telepathicly.

How to Play it
The Song of Time is played the same way in both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. The melody is as follows: c-right, A, c-down, c-right, A, c-down. In the 3DS remake of Ocarina of Time, it is played like this: Y, R, L, Y, R, L.

Uses
In Ocarina of Time, the Song of Time is used first and foremost to open the Door of Time, the door that is the last guardian of the Master Sword and the entrance to the Sacred Realm. It can also be used to move big, blue blocks that have the time symbol on them to helpful locations. In Majora's Mask, the Song of Time is used to return Link to the dawn of the first day. It also saves your progress through the game.

Epona's Song
Epona's Song is featured in both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. In Ocarina of Time, it is taught to Link by Malon as a child. At first Epona does not like Link, but after playing the song Epona warms up to Link. It cannot be used to summound Epona until Link has rescued her from Lon Lon Ranch as an adult. He can do this by defeating Ingo at two different races around the fenced-off area. In Majora's Mask, Link can get this song by practicing with Romani on the First Day.

How to Play it
Epona's Song is played the same way in both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. The melody goes like this: c-up, c-left, c-right, c-up, c-left, c-right. In the 3DS remake of Ocarina of Time, it is played like this: A, X, Y, A, X, Y.

Uses
The main for Epona's Song both games is to summon Epona. However, there is one more hidden use for this song. If Link is standing beside a cow and has an Empty Bottle, playing Epona's Song will fill an Empty Bottle with Milk, a very good healing liqiud.

This song restores Lulu's singing voice and awakens the turtle that will take Link to Great Bay Temple.
*Elegy of Emptiness
:The Elegy of Emptiness is taught to Link by Igos du Ikana after defeating him in Ikana Castle. It will allow Link to create a statue resembling himself to rest on switches. There is one for each of his different forms.

:Although it is learned quite early on in the game from the first of the Four Giants, the Oath to Order is not needed until much later. After saving the last giant and heading to the top of the Clock Tower on the final day, Link plays this song to call the giants to stop the moon from falling.
*Scarecrow's Song
:Like in Ocarina of Time, the Scarecrow's Song is an original song written by the player when played for the Scarecrow. The Ocarina of Time is an item featured in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. It is a treasued item passed down by the Royal Family of Hyrule. It was created along with the Temple of Time and the Door of Time to prevent those unworthy of touching the Master Sword.

Games

The Ocarina of Time has been featured in two different Zelda games, including the game named after it, Ocarina of Time and it's sequel, Majora's Mask. It has the same basic use in both games: playing songs.

Ocarina of Time (Game)

After Link finds all three Spiritual Stones, he can return to Hyrule Castle Town only to find it being overrun by the King of Thieves, Ganondorf. Princess Zelda flees and throws the Ocarina of Time in the moat. After Link refuses to tell Ganondorf where Zelda fled to, Link can swim in the moat to retrieve the Ocarina. Upon doing so, Princess Zelda teaches Link the Song of Time in a vision.

It is the only instrument that can open the Door of Time. While holding the three Spiritual Stones and playing the Song of Time at the altar in the Temple of Time, the Door of Time opens, revealing the Master Sword and the entrance to the Sacred Realm.

Songs

Taught to Link by Impa, Zelda's Lullaby proves Link's connection to the Royal Family. It is used constantly throughout the games, such as to open doors, make fairies appear, or raise water levels in the Water Temple.
This is the song played by Link's childhood friend Saria in the Lost Woods. He can use it to speak with her at any time across long distances. Darunia really likes this song.
The Song of Time is used in accordance with the Spiritual Stones to open the Door of Time and reach the Master Sword. It can also move big blue blocks with the same symbol as the Door of Time.
Malon teaches Link this song so that he can get to know Epona better. Epona is attracted to this song, and after Link saves her from Lon Lon Ranch in the future, she will come to him whenever he plays it. In addition, cows will give Link a bottle of milk if he plays this song near them.
The Sun's Song is found in the Royal Family's Tomb, underneath the Kakariko Village Graveyard. The directions are accompanied by a poem on a stone, past a large room filled with ReDeads. It can change day into night and vice versa.
This song can only be learned as an adult in the future from Guru-Guru in the Windmill Hut, but it is used in the past to access the Bottom of the Well. When the song is played, it will begin to rain.
As one of six warping songs that Link learns as an adult, Sheik will teach Link the Prelude of Light on the harp in the Temple of Time after completing the Forest Temple. Whenever it is played, Link will warp to the temple.
The Minuet of Forest is the first warping song. It is taught to Link by Sheik in the Sacred Forest Meadow, and allows him to warp back to the forest near the entrance to the Forest Temple at any time.
Once again, Sheik teaches Link this warping song. He learns it in Death Mountain Crater so that he can warp back there to the Fire Temple.
The Serenade of Water is learned from Sheik on an island in Lake Hylia, just above the entrance to the Water Temple. It will warp him here, like all of the other songs warp him to their own respective locations.
Although it is learned from Sheik in Kakariko Village, the Nocturne of Shadow will warp Link to the Graveyard for quick access to the Shadow Temple.
The Requiem of Spirit is learned outside of the Desert Colossus, in front of the Spirit Temple. It will warp him to a platform out in the desert.
This song is an original eight-note song that can be written by the player if played for Bonooru at Lake Hylia. It can summon Pierre if played in the right places.

Majora's Mask

Link begins the game with the Ocarina of Time, but shortly after it is stolen by Skull Kid. He then is transformed into a Deku Scrub and goes around Clock Town looking for Skull Kid. He learns that Skull Kid is at the top of the Clock Tower. After stunning Skull Kid with a bubble, he can retrieve the Ocarina. After doing so, Princess Zelda will reteach him the Song of Time in a memory.

Alternate Forms

While in a form other than Hylian Link, the instrument changes into one that better suits his new form. On some occasions, the powers of songs will only work on one of these instruments.

Songs

Returning from Ocarina of Time, the Song of Time plays a much larger role than before. It can return Link to the beginning of the three day cycle, and it saves the game. There are two alternate forms of the Song of Time in Majora's Mask: the Inverted Song of Time and the Song of Double Time, played by playing each note of the Song of Time twice or backwards, respectively.
The main song of the game is the Song of Healing. It can trap souls and turn them into masks, healing their regrets.
Link finds the notes to the Song of Storms in a grave in Ikana Graveyard after defeating an Iron Knuckle. It was composed by Flat of the Composer Brothers after his brother sold his soul to the devil. Like in Ocarina of Time, the Song of Storms makes it rain.
Once again, Link learns Epona's Song in order to call his horse. Romani at Romani Ranch teaches it to him.
The Song of Soaring is learned on a stone found in the path to Woodfall. When used, Link can fly to any of the Owl Statues across Termina.
This song is taught to Link by the wrongly accused Monkey imprisoned in the Deku Palace. It can be used to access Woodfall Temple if played on the Pipes of Awakening.
After saving the Goron Elder, Link learns this from him in his Goron form. It instantly makes any Gorons fall asleep. Not only is it used to quiet the Goron Elder's wailing son, but it can make Biggoron fall asleep and unblock the path to Snowhead Temple.
The New Wave Bossa Nova is a Zora song played on the Guitar of Waves. When Link manages to collect all of the Zora Eggs and place them in a tank in the Marine Research Lab, they will hatch and line up in the order of the notes to the song. This song restores Lulu's singing voice and awakens the turtle that will take Link to Great Bay Temple.
The Elegy of Emptiness is taught to Link by Igos du Ikana after defeating him in Ikana Castle. It will allow Link to create a statue resembling himself to rest on switches. There is one for each of his different forms.
Although it is learned quite early on in the game from the first of the Four Giants, the Oath to Order is not needed until much later. After saving the last giant and heading to the top of the Clock Tower on the final day, Link plays this song to call the giants to stop the moon from falling.
Like in Ocarina of Time, the Scarecrow's Song is an original song written by the player when played for the Scarecrow. He will appear in places across Termina when played, but it will not work if Link plays the Song of Time and resets the days until he returns to the Scarecrow and plays it again.
