"A screw used in ancient machinery. It's made of an unknown material, and no matter how many times it's turned, its threads never seem to show signs of wear."

— In-Game Description[1]

Overview

The Ancient Screw is a material found in Breath of the Wild. It can be obtained by defeating any type of Guardian. Additionally, Link can find an Ancient Screw by examining a decaying guardian, as well as by lifting legless guardians that are in the water, using Cryonis. Additionally, Link can purchase Ancient Screws from the traveling merchant Teli for 48 rupees. While Teli normally only sells an Ancient Screw, Ancient Spring, and Ancient Gear, he has a rainy day special, where Link can purchase two Ancient Screws for the same price of 48 rupees.

Use

This material can be used in creating ancient equipment at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, including Ancient Arrows. Ancient Screws are used in the manufacturing of the Ancient Bladesaw. It is also used to purchase items from the Ancient Armor set, such as the Ancient Cuirass. When Link upgrades the Ancient Armor at the Great Fairy, he will need at least 5 Ancient Screws for the first upgrade. Link can also trade an Ancient Screw with Kilton at his shop, the Fang and Bone, for 2 Mon each.

In the Slated for Upgrades sidequest, Link will need to acquire three Ancient Screws in order to upgrade his Sheikah Slate. After bringing them to Purah, she will upgrade Link's Sheikah Slate to the Sheikah Slate+, which allows Link to search for items that has recorded in the Hyrule Compendium. After acquiring this ability, Link can speak with Symin to start the sidequest, Sunshroom Sensing.
