"A spirit of fire has taken the form of this giant dragon. Making its home in the Eldin region, it's said to have served the Spring of Power since ancient times. An old saying goes, "The dragon ascends to the heavens as the sun begins to set." but nobody has witnessed this in the current age. The flames that coat its body make it dangerous to get near, but Dinraal bears no ill will toward people."

— In-Game Description

Dinraal is one of three dragons found in Breath of the Wild. It can be found roaming between the Eldin Great Skeleton in the mid-morning (~9:00 AM) and the southern end of Tanagar Canyon past midnight.

Drops and Uses

Dinraal can drop four items, including Dinraal's Scale, Dinraal's Claw, Shard of Dinraal's Fang, and Shard of Dinraal's Horn.

In spite of having two spawning points, Dinraal is a surprisingly unreliable dragon to regularly encounter, though some methods are available for regular spawning at north Eldin and the Tanagar Canyon. One recommended location to wait for Dinraal is atop of the small rock protrusion east-southeast from the Eldin Great Skeleton (the point where Dinraal is closest to the ground). An ideal place to camp is the cave where the Maag No'rah Shrine is located, and then paragliding north to the southern border of the canyon and waiting. Dinraal will unequivocally appear in the northern sky, but it will take some time for him to make his way to the canyon.

Gathering Dinraal parts can prove a time-consuming task, more than the other dragons, due to the fact that waiting both at Eldin and the Tanagar Canyon can take hours in-game from resting at a fire; waiting at Eldin can take up to 4 hours (awakening at 5 AM to his spawning at 9 AM), while the canyon can take no less than 3 (awakening at 9 PM to his spawning at 12 AM).

Note that Dinraal may not spawn if you wait at the same location too many times in a row, or during weather. Be careful of Dinraal's fiery aura because if you paraglide too close it may knock you out of the sky.

Shrine Quests

Dinraal is involved in The Spring of Power shrine quest in order to uncover Tutsuwa Nima Shrine, south of the North Akkala Valley. Link must procure a scale to drop in the Spring of Power, which will open the door to the shrine.

Dinraal is also involved in the DLC-exclusive Shira Gomar Shrine at the Tanagar Canyon, where Link must shoot at its horns when they glow blue to uncover the shrine. The shard serves no purpose towards uncovering the shrine, as the point itself is shooting at the horns.
