Gibdos are one of the most common enemies in The Legend of Zelda series. They appear in nearly every game to date. They are mummy-like enemies.

Appearances

The Legend of Zelda

Gibdos make their first appearance in the original The Legend of Zelda. They can be found in Level 5 and Level 8 in the First Quest, and Level 2, Level 4, and Level 7 in the Second Quest. They require multiple hits via the Magical Sword to be vanquished. If they manage to hit Link, they deal a tremendous amount of damage.

A Link to the Past

Gibdos first appear in A Link to the Past as Link is traveling through the Skull Woods dungeon. Gibdos are mummified undead enemies that wander around. They move in straight lines, slowly making their way toward Link. Their only form of attack is simply to run into Link.

Despite their rather basic nature of attack, Gibdos are quite difficult enemies. Usually, they are found in rooms alongside a wide variety of enemies, including Wallmasters and Baris. This makes battling them a bit hectic and if they do come into contact with Link, they will do two full hearts of damage. Furthermore, Gibdos are some of the most resilient enemies in the entire game, needing eight slashes from Link's Master Sword to be defeated.

Given the fact that Gibdo's are mummies, they are vulnerable to fire-based attacks. Link can defeat a Gibdo instantly with one direct hit from his Fire Rod. Furthermore, if there is a room filled with Gibdos and other enemies, the Gibdos can be defeated immediately if Link uses the Bombos Medallion.

Link's Awakening

In Link's Awakening, Gibdos make an appearance quite frequently. They can be defeated with sword attacks, but when their bandages are set on fire, it is revealed that they are actually Stalfos.

Ocarina of Time

		Gibdo Its gaze will paralyze you. If it bites you, tap any button to escape!

If Link gets caught in their line of sight, Gibdos will paralyze him for a few seconds, giving them a chance to get close and potentially jump on top of him, biting on him. Link can play the Sun's Song to stun the Gibdo momentarily, allowing him to sneak behind the enemy and deliver sword slashes. Alternatively, Link can also use Deku Nuts to stun a Gibdo. Outside of the cosmetic appearance, Gibdo's are completely identical to ReDead.

Majora's Mask

		It's a Gibdo. You won't be able to move if it glares at you, so be careful! Got it?

In Majora's Mask, Gibdos appear in Ikana Canyon surrounding the Music Box House and Beneath the Well. They transformed Pamela's Father into a strange half-breed between the two, forcing Link to heal him with the Song of Healing, resulting in the Gibdo Mask. They use a horrifying glare to paralyze Link and then grab him, dealing heavy damage. When hit by a Fire Arrow, they become ReDeads.

Oracle Games

In both Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, Gibdos can be found in various places. Their bandages can be set afire and burned away with the use of Ember Seeds, or they can be vanquished with Link's typical sword attacks. However, their movements are often unpredictable. If they do manage to hit Link, it deals a significant amount of damage.

Four Swords

In Four Swords, Gibdos can be spotted in Vaati's Palace and Talus Cave. If Link is caught in their line of sight, they will immediately pursue him. They will also shoot Like-Like like traps that suck you in, leaving you unable to move and vulnerable to attack. They also take quite a number of hits to defeat. Gibdos will often appear as traps after Link activates certain switches, but sometimes they will appear normally.

Four Swords Adventures

In Four Swords Adventures, Gibdos can be located in The Desert of Doubt. Unlike other games such as Ocarina of Time, Gibdos do not have the ability to paralyze Link. Upon being defeated, Gibdos sometimes become Stalfos, and proceed to enter The Dark World.

The Minish Cap

In The Minish Cap, Gibdos appear in the Royal Crypt and in the Palace of Winds. They attack by running up to Link and crushing him. Gibdos are among the most formidable enemies in The Minish Cap; they can deal up to four hearts of damage. If Link uses the Lantern to burn their rags off, they turn into Blue Stalfos.

A Link Between Worlds

In A Link Between Worlds, Gibdos make an appearance similar to in A Link to the Past. They still move slowly and deal decent damage, and remain resilient to slash attacks. They can be burnt with the Fire Rod or Lamp to burn the bandages off revealing Stalfos underneath. Any damage dealt will not remain meaning it will be replaced with a fully healed Stalfos. However, it will be much less resilient and deal less damage. The time it takes for the bandage to burn also allows players to turn their attention to other enemies or simply flee if needed.

Trivia

• The ReDead Knights from Twilight Princess have a similar appearance to Gibdos from past games.
