The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D is a remake of the Nintendo 64 classic, Majora's Mask, for the Nintendo 3DS line of systems. The game was officially announced during a November 5th, 2014 Nintendo Direct with a release date set for Spring 2015 in all regions except Australia, where it was scheduled for an Autumn 2015 release. During the January 14, 2015 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced the release date to be February 13, 2015 for North America and Europe and February 14, 2015 for Japan and Australia. It features enhanced graphics, similar to the improvements made to Ocarina of Time in Ocarina of Time 3D.
Changes from Majora's Mask (N64)
New Features
Majora's Mask 3D features enhanced graphics over the original, using the advanced hardware and graphical capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS. Two new Fishing Holes have also been added, something that was not in the original game. This is most likely an envisioned feature for the original game, as unused data for a fishing rod have been discovered within the game's coding. An unknown feature exclusive to the New 3DS has also been confirmed[citation needed]. The game's controls are touch-based, like The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and uses the gyroscope, like in Ocarina of Time 3D.
Minor Differences
- The location of the Bank has moved to South Clock Town.
- The location of the five Bombers in the Hide-and-Seek game have changed and they are now found in each part of Clock Town.
- South Clock Town now has more space with additional room behind the Clock Tower.
- Bombers will run up to Link at times in Clock Town to tell him Rumored Events.
- The Bombers' Notebook is now received from the Happy Mask Salesman rather than the Bombers themselves.
- Kaepora Gaebora is now found right when Link enters the Southern Swamp and he will teach the Song of Soaring at this point.
- Two Fishing Holes have been added to the Road to Southern Swamp and Zora Cape. There are twelve different types of fish in each location, totaling twenty four fish in the game.
- There is now a warp in the cave with the Bean Seller that quickly takes you to just east of the Deku Palace.
- When flying as Deku Link, player can press "R" to get a vertical viewpoint, with a large circle showcasing where he can land.
- When flying at the upper part of the Deku Palace, the platforms are no longer moving. They only move after Link has landed on them.
- The Great Fairy Fountain in Woodfall was moved from southeast portion of the area to the western part. Much more accessible.
- Several of the Stray Fairies in the Woodfall Temple have changed locations.
- Gathering all 15 Stray Fairies in the Woodfall Temple now doubles the size of the magic meter gauge instead of giving you the Spin Attack.
- The reward for Koume's Target Shooting has changed from a Piece of Heart to an Empty Bottle.
- A Piece of Heart is now found instead of an Empty Bottle after digging up the grave in Ikana Graveyard.
- The reward for the first two days for the Honey & Darling's Shop mini-game is now a Fishing Hole Pass.
- The reward for the first two days of the Deku Scrub Playground mini-game is now a Fishing Hole Pass.
- The Garo's Mask has been remodeled to resemble the Garo Master instead of Garo Robes.
- A miniature of Clock Town has been added just to the left of the entrance of Mayor's Residence.
- Deku Link's bubble no longer bursts after holding it for a while. There is also an icon for easier targeting.
- The Hookshot now has a laser sight for easier targeting and detects hookshot-friendly materials.
- The Stone Mask is now received in the Pirates' Fortress instead of before the entrance to Ikana Canyon.
- The Giant's Mask is now received after defeating the blue Twinmold instead of in the Stone Tower Temple after defeating Eyegore.
