Fairy Fountains are recurring locations in The Legend of Zelda series. They are places where Link can recover health by the use of fairies. They have appeared in many games with different appearances that may vary from location to location, but all function in a similar manner. Fairies found in these fountains, with the exception of those in Majora's Mask, can be bottled and used as recovery if Link loses all of his hearts.

The Legend of Zelda

There are three Fairy Fountains found across Hyrule in this game, and all of them but one contain a Fairy, who will restore Link to full health. The one Fairy Fountain that doesn't carry a Fairy is actually the entrance to the seventh dungeon of the game, Level 7: The Demon.

In the Second Quest, another Fairy Fountain is added north of the Lost Hills, and an empty Fairy Fountain concealing Level 3 takes the place of Level 2 from the First Quest.

A Link to the Past

Fairy Fountains in A Link to the Past are scattered all over Hyrule, in both the Light and Dark Worlds. These fountains are typically seen in well-hidden caves that are only accessible with the assistance of a specific obtainable item.

In Ocarina of Time there are two types of fairy fountains. One consists of fairies hovering around a shallow pool, and the other is the Great Fairy Fountains, which are home to the Great Fairies, who grant Link magical abilities if he plays Zelda's Lullaby.

Majora's Mask

In Majora's Mask, only one Fairy Fountain with standard fairies exists in Termina, in an optional room Beneath the Well. The Gibdo guarding it requires a bug before they allow Link to pass.

Five other Fairy's Fountains exist, one in each geographical region, which are normally inhabited by Great Fairies, but who were shattered by the Skull Kid and appear as Stray Fairies of a specific color. Each Great Fairy requests that Link saves the remaining missing Stray Fairies in order to obtain a reward; however, Link can still recover health in these fountains even without all fifteen, though any stray fairy within them cannot be bottled.

In Twilight Princess, fairies appear in the Spirit's Springs only after Link meets with the Great Fairy on every tenth floor in the Cave of Ordeals. Each successive time he speaks to her, she releases fairies at a specific spring.
