Cooking is a game mechanic in Breath of the Wild, where Link can throw up to five pieces of material into a lit Cooking Pot to create a cooked dish. Different combinations of items result in different dishes with different effects, mostly centered around healing and stats boosting.
====To-do list====

==The basics==
*Add information to subregion pages
*add the maximum possible bonus to weapons
*Finish BotW Location by region pages
**Put pages in categories if need be
*Sort necessary fles in TOTK files root category
*Create listings for caves, chasms, wells, etc.
*'''Edit 2H weapons and spear damages in totk to reflect UI lies''', create infobox row linking to <nowiki>[[Shown Power/Damage]]</nowiki>
*Add upgrades to equipment on their pages, also create more things like [[Hylia Series]]
*material pages (already added fuse power)
* Add tiered sell prices and upgrade costs to armor

There are three types of cooking items: food, animals, and monster parts. Animals and monster parts must be cooked together in order to make something other than [[Dubious Food]]. To start off, simply roasting (putting something next to a cooking pot or on a fire) a food item will multiply the amount of hearts that food item gives by 1.5x. Cooking (putting in a cooking pot) a food item will double the amount oh hearts it gives when eaten; the same rule applies to cooking multiple items. There are currently 116 different meals you can make.

Some materials have special effect properties, which is noticeable in their name (e.g. an [[Electric Safflina]] will give you shock resistance if you cook it, while a [[Swift Carrot]] gives you more speed). Note that Link will not gain an effect if an effect-giving food is eaten raw. Also note that if two effect-giving foods are cooked together, the resulting meal will give no effect.

All foods add more duration to an effect, with the highest being the [[Shard of Farosh's Horn|Dragon Horn]], adding 30 minutes to an effect duration.

{{Ambox|type=notice|text=This will be a work of progress, where contributions from the public will be highly appreciated, but this is going to be an attempt to catalog all the food recipes and elixir recipes in one place, with their ingredients and effects.}}

'''Recipes''' in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild|Breath of the Wild]]'' are the result of [[Link]] cooking ingredients together to create a meal or an elixir. Cooking is done by holding a selection of up to five ingredients and dropping them into a lit [[Cooking Pot]]. Meals are made from proteins, mushrooms, fruits, and vegetables, and elixirs are made by cooking critters with monster parts. Cooking meal ingredients with critters, monster parts, ancient parts, or ore results in dubious food or rock-hard food.

While some raw ingredients will restore a portion of a heart or a small number of hearts, cooking meals from those ingredients greatly increases the number of hearts restored. With most recipes, ingredients have their heart-values doubled when included as part of a recipe, though items that heal a half-heart/quarter-heart are always rounded up to one heart. Dubious food and rock-hard food can be eaten but it restores a minimal amount of hearts and does not have any additional properties.

In addition to experimenting with cooking, recipes can be found through a variety of methods. Different individuals will share recipes they know of or request meals be cooked as part of a shrine or side quest. Recipe books and posters are in various locations around [[Hyrule]], most commonly [[Stable]]s or shops and occasionally in villagers' homes.

== Effects ==
Cooking meals or elixirs from certain ingredients will also activate effect-imparting items, and effect-imparting ingredients can stack with the same kind for greater effect. Two different effects cannot be active at once, however, meaning only one effect may be active at a time, with the exception of Hearty and other effects.

=== Effects Calculation ===
The purpose of this template is to easily display the stats of a weapon fuse in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom|Tears of the Kingdom]]''.
The formula for calculating a meal's total heart-value is:<br>
{{clear}}
<code>(ingredient1.HP + ingredient2.HP + ingredient3.HP & etc) × 2 = sum</code>

The formula for calculating effect duration is:<br>
==Usage==
<code>(default effect time + (bonus?) + 30 seconds per item) = sum<ref name="durcalcfootnote1"/></code><br>
{{Fused Stats|Eightfold Longblade|40|43|N/A|20|22|58|shield=600}}
<references>
{{Usage|fuse|shownPower|actualPower|durability|shownPowerBonus|actualPowerBonus|durabilityBonus|shield{{=}}}}
<ref name="durcalcfootnote1">Possible max-duration for effects has a cap of 30 minutes. Effect-duration is handled by the effect and not the item, as items only add +30sec per item. The "(bonus?)" part of the equation is to account for the chance of critical cooks or adding dragon parts/star fragments.</ref>
{{Usage/Param|fuse|This is the weapon or item (or both) that are being fused. Whether the weapon or the item is specified is based upon which is not a requirement to produce the weapon of which the page is about.}}
</references>
{{Usage/Param|shownPower|This is the power of the fused weapon shown in the inventory.}}

{{Usage/Param|actualPower|This is the actual power of the weapon when used.<ref name="difference"/>}}
Effect strength is based on a point system. Each effect-imparting item adds to a total, and if the total reaches a certain value, the effect-tier is increased. Tier-3 is the max if the value is more than the first 'threshold' for most effects. As example, Chillshrooms or Staminoka Bass add more points than others, due to being stronger effect modifiers.
{{Usage/Param|durability|This is the durability of the weapon.<ref name="difference"/>}}

{{Usage/Param|shownPowerBonus|This is the maximum possible power bonus shown in the inventory.<ref name="difference"/>}}
Cooking valid recipes has a chance for random bonuses (such as increased hearts or duration boosts), which is approximately a 1:10 chance or 10% chance per cooked recipe. This increases to a 100% chance during a [[blood moon]] rising, however before the cutscene so the time window is small; with the exact time being 11:35pm-11:55pm.
{{Usage/Param|actualPowerBonus|This is the actual maximum possible power bonus.<ref name="difference"/>}}

{{Usage/Param|durabilityBonus|This is the maximum possible durability bonus}}
Monster Extract may slightly or drastically improve hearts, effect-tier and/or duration properties of recipes but may also may incur no changes or make them worse. This means that a meal using monster extract may see no effect or only duration boosted but may also have all three boost-types applied. A recipe that includes monster extract will never get the possible random chance for a bonus, even if star fragments or dragon parts are included.

== Recipes ==
Cooking proteins over an open flame or freezing them will also increase the number of hearts restored.

Max selling price is assumed from using most profitable possible ingredients as long as they do not effect recipe outcome priority. Recipes that require two different components (such as Steamed Mushrooms) will have effects override recipe properties if both required items are the same effect, such as Hasty. For recipes that require any kind of vegetable + an extra static component that is not edible (i.e., Rock Salt), it is possible to get zero heart-value recipes if herbs that are inedible are used.

==Elixirs==
{{Cat|Templates}}
When cooking elixirs, critters will influence effect-strength while monster parts influence effect-duration. Having 4/5 monster parts will produce the longest-lasted elixirs but with a tradeoff towards effect-strength, however, having 4/5 critters will produce the maximum effect-strength with a generally long duration. The rarest monster parts, such as guts, tails and cores, provide the best duration buffs; while the lowest; horns, tentacles, non-elemental keese wings  and  non-elemental chuchu jelly provide the most minimum buffs for duration.
</nowiki>
-->
===Neat===

Adding an [[Acorn]], [[Apple]] or [[Chickaloo Tree Nut]] to an elixir will add minor healing properties and minor duration boosts that the elixir would not otherwise have. However, acorns or tree-nuts are considered worse than even the lowest-tier effect modifiers. Fairies can be cooked into a tonic which restores hearts, the amount determined by the number of fairies used and do not require additional ingredients besides at least one fairy.
{{Listbox|Tears of the Kingdom Enemies}}
{{Galbox|Tears of the Kingdom Enemies}}

Like recipes and bonus hearts, produced elixirs may randomly end up with bonus effects to potency or duration. Dragon parts will also provide the same expected bonuses for duration, with the rare dragon horns providing the highest at a 30-minute buff increase. Some elixir times may appear to be skewed in terms of effect vs duration but they tend to even out with high-tier monster parts as the bulk. Given certain kinds of guts/etc are the same tier, if one prefers to spread resources or be efficient, it is recommended to use the most plentiful tier-3 monster parts available, typically Bokoblin Guts or Keese Eyeballs.

== Open-flame Cooked & Frozen ==
Open-flame cooked foods are created by dropping raw materials into an open flame, dropping them on the ground on [[Death Mountain]], or by killing an animal which drops raw materials with a fire-based weapon.  Frozen/icy foods are created by dropping raw proteins (fruits, vegetables, and mushrooms will not freeze) on the ground in extremely snowy regions or by killing an animal which drops raw materials with an ice-based weapon.

In ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild|Breath of the Wild]]'', cooking is not explained well. There are many variables and factors that come into play when using a [[Cooking Pot]], or just simply roasting something.

==Effect Points==
'''Soldier IV Blade''' is a type of [[Fused Weapon]] found in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom|Tears of the Kingdom]]''.

When making a meal to create an effect in Breath of the Wild, there is a certain amount of "effect points" that you need to use in order to get a certain level effect. We'll show the graphics first, then explain.
==''Tears of the Kingdom''==
The weapon is formed by fusing a variety of two-handed swords with a [[Soldier Construct IV Horn]]. A common fuse variety is with a [[Strong Zonaite Longsword]] and a Soldier Construct IV Horn. This weapon has a power of 39, but the actual strength of a Soldier IV Blade will be dependent on what items are fused together.

{| class="wikitable"
In addition to fusing these manually, they can also be found in treasure chests located in [[Lomei Depths Labyrinth]], [[Lomei Sky Labyrinth]], [[North Lomei Depths Labyrinth]], [[South Lomei Depths Labyrinth]], and the [[Wind Temple (Tears of the Kingdom)|Wind Temple]]. The actual tier of the weapon will depend on your [[World Level#Tears of the Kingdom|World Level]].

===Explanation===
Depending on what effect level you want in your dish, you need a certain number of points. The second graphic shows you how many points you need to get an effect. Different materials give different amounts of points. The first graphic shows how many points each material gives you for a specific effect. For example, if Link puts four [[Armoranth]]s into a pot, the dish created will give a level one tough effect, because each armoranth equals one point, and a level two effect requires 5 points, so it can only be a level one. But if Link puts in 3 [[Razorshroom]]s and a [[Mighty Porgy]], he will get a level 3 tough effect because razorshrooms are worth 2 points and a mighty porgy is worth 3, totalling to 9 points, which exceeds the 7-point requirement for a level 3 tough effect.

*Some effects in the second table only have two rows because you cannot create a level 3 effect.

Type

Soldier IV Blade is a type of Fused Weapon found in Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom

The weapon is formed by fusing a variety of two-handed swords with a Soldier Construct IV Horn. A common fuse variety is with a Strong Zonaite Longsword and a Soldier Construct IV Horn. This weapon has a power of 39, but the actual strength of a Soldier IV Blade will be dependent on what items are fused together.

In addition to fusing these manually, they can also be found in treasure chests located in Lomei Depths Labyrinth, Lomei Sky Labyrinth, North Lomei Depths Labyrinth, South Lomei Depths Labyrinth, and the Wind Temple. The actual tier of the weapon will depend on your World Level.
