The Sword is a recurring Item in The Legend of Zelda series.

Overview

The Legend of Zelda

"IT'S DANGEROUS TO GO ALONE! TAKE THIS."

In The Legend of Zelda, the Sword is located in a Cave on the starting screen; Inside, Link finds an Old Man who gives him the weapon, stating that it is dangerous to go alone. The sword bears a wooden blade, with a green cross-guard, pale yellow grip, and green pommel; However, its appearance changes with Link's tunic after he obtains the Blue Ring and Red Ring, respectively.

The Sword is the standard weapon in the game; Link can use it to perform stab attacks in front of him, damaging any enemies he hits. If Link is at full health, the Sword can fire Sword Beams with each stab. It can later be replaced with the White Sword, a more powerful sword.

Link's Awakening

{{Quote|You found your Sword! It must be yours because it has your name on it!|N/A, Link's Awakening In Link's Awakening, the Sword is located in Toronbo Shores, having washed up on the beach following Link's arrival on Koholint Island. To reach it, Link must use the Shield to push the Sea Urchins blocking it out of the way. The Sword is stated to be the same one that Link used in his previous adventures.

The Sword is once again Link's standard weapon; Link can use it to perform slash attacks in front of him, damaging any enemies he hits; Link is also able to perform Spin Attacks by holding the button. Link can also strike walls with the Sword to determine if he can destroy them with a Bomb. It can later be upgraded to the Koholint Sword, a more powerful sword.

Tri Force Heroes

In Tri Force Heroes, the Sword is the standard weapon used by the Links. Its appearance changes based on the current outfit being worn,

Breath of the Wild

"A sword once wielded by a hero in an ancient age. When it’s grasped, a strange sense of nostalgia washes over you. Take it when going alone would otherwise be dangerous."

In Breath of the Wild, the Sword is referred to as the Sword of the Hero. It is an Amiibo exclusive weapon, and must be obtained by scanning a "Link (The Legend of Zelda)" Amiibo. Upon doing so, the Sword of the Hero can appear as a random drop. It is based on its appearance in promotional artwork for The Legend of Zelda.

The Sword of the Hero is a metal, one-handed weapon. It deals 17 damage per strike and has a base durability of 27.

Tears of the Kingdom

In Tears of the Kingdom, the Sword appears once again as the Sword of the Hero. It is now part of the base game, being found inside a Treasure Chest in the Dalite Grove, inside of a hollowed-out tree. Once it has been broken for the first time, Link can purchase more from the Bargainer Statue for 100 Poes. Alternatively, Link can also obtain the Sword as an Amiibo drop

The Sword has the same properties as in Breath of the Wild. When fused to a weapon, it increases the weapon's attack power by +17 and makes it sharp; If fused to a shield, it increases the shield guard by +17, and increases friction while shield-surfing but enables a shield bash attack.

Other appearances

This Section describes a subject that is or may be outside the core Zelda canon.

The Legend of Zelda (TV series)

In the episode "Stinging a Stinger", Link is offered a Sword by Sleezenose as a sign of gratitude for saving him, in exchange for his Crissword. While Link is hesitant to make the trade, he ends up doing so after Sleezenose claims the Sword makes its wielder irresistible to women, especially princesses. When Link laters attempts to protect Zelda from a Patra, the Sword immediately breaks in half after one beam and knocks Link over; He then realizes Sleezenose tricked him. Link leaves the Sword behind when he is later kidnapped by Ganon.

Link's Awakening (Manga)

In the Link's Awakening manga, Link obtains his Sword from Toronbo Shores, just as he does in-game. Link later breaks the Sword during his fight with the Angler Fish, after he stabs it in the head.

BS The Legend of Zelda

In BS The Legend of Zelda, the Sword is received from the Old Man in the Starting Screen during Week 1. It functions identically to its appearance in The Legend of Zelda.

CD-i Games

In Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, the Sword is the main weapon used by both protagonists. It is used as the primary weapon in combat, but will also pick up dropped Items, and is used to talk to characters by striking them. The Sword is referred to in-game as the Smart Sword, and it is explained that the blade doesn't hurt anyone the wielder deems friendly, instead compelling them to talk. The Sword can later be replaced with the Power Sword.

Hyrule Warriors

In Hyrule Warriors, the Sword appears as the 8-Bit Wooden Sword, based on its appearance in The Legend of Zelda and wielded alongside the Shield from the same game. It is a special variant of the Hylian Sword weapon class, and can be obtained in one of two ways:

Trivia
