Pot Lid

"The lid of a large soup pot. It smells vaguely of poultry broth... Yum! It can take quite a beating before breaking."

Breath of the Wild in-game description

The Pot Lid is a shield found in Breath of the Wild, Age of Calamity, and Tears of the Kingdom.

Despite their name, Pot Lids are never actually seen being used in cooking to cover a pot, only as a shield.

Breath of the Wild

Pot Lids have a base Shield Guard of 1 and base durability of 10. One can be found on the Great Plateau, just outside of the Woodcutter's House, and they are typically found in urbanized areas, such as Hateno Village or Stables.

As makeshift shields, often used by Bokoblins in defense of Monster Camps, they have the lowest possible base Shield Guard and should only be used as a last resort.

They are the shield counterparts to the Soup Ladle. As they are related to cooking, Pot Lids can also be seen being used by the traveling chef Stamm, as well as the failed chef Moza.

The Pot Lid is one of the worst shields in the game for shield surfing due to its low durability. However, it has average friction and damage rate, making only the Royal Guard's Shield worse overall for surfing.

Story

As part of The Champions' Ballad DLC, a story is told in Daruk's Training Journal where Link encounters an out of control Guardian. During a test, the Guardian lost control and started to shoot out deadly beams. Link grabbed a nearby Pot Lid and performed a Perfect Guard, deflecting the beam back at the Guardian, defeating it. This caught the eye of the King Rhoam, which led to Link being appointed the guard of Princess Zelda.[1]

Tears of the Kingdom

Pot Lids have a base Shield Guard of 1 and base durability of 10. One can be found in Rito Village, in the room just above the Brazen Beak.
