The Fire Temple is the fifth Dungeon in the game Ocarina of Time.

Gaining Entrance

NB: Although for story purposes it is

After collecting the Hookshot from Dampé's Grave, Link can travel to Goron City; where he finds most of the populace has disappeared, apart from one small Goron rolling where the Hot Rodder Goron once did. Stopping him with a bomb reveals he is Darunia's son, named for Link himself. While talking to him to calm him down, Link learns that most of the Gorons - except for the shopkeeper, who locked himself in his shop, Darunia, and Darunia's son himself - have been captured and taken to the Fire Temple to be fed to Volvagia as a warning to those who would oppose Ganondorf. Darunia followed to try and free his people, and his son begs Link to help, opening Darunia's room & the shop for him and giving him a Goron Tunic to protect him from intense heat.[1]

In the throne room, Link can pull the statue against the back wall, opening a passage to Death Mountain Crater. Hookshotting his way across a broken bridge prompts Sheik to appear and teach him the Bolero of Fire to warp to the Triforce Pedestal outside. With this learned, he can continue to the underground Fire Temple, at the bottom of a long vertical shaft.

Dungeon Overview

The Fire Temple is located within the Death Mountain Crater and Link must wear the Goron Tunic for much of it to avoid the threat of death from heat. While exploring the dungeon, other than defeating the boss of the temple, Volvagia, and preventing it from destroying Hyrule, Link also must free the Gorons imprisoned in rooms throughout the temple. Each Goron has a key to a room in the dungeon inside its cage along with himself. Halfway through the temple, Link receives the Megaton Hammer, a necessity for defeating Volvagia. The hammer also has some other uses such as activating rusty switches. After Link finishes the temple and the boss, Darunia is awakened as the Sage of Fire and Link receives the Fire Medallion. The song that warps Link to this dungeon is the Bolero of Fire.

Master Quest

The Master Quest version of the Fire Temple is much harder than its regular counterpart, featuring many more puzzles, time challenges, and invisible walls. A wider array of items including the Hookshot and Din's Fire is necessary as well. New enemies include several Stalfos, Lizalfos (found in the boulder room) and even an Iron Knuckle. There are fewer Gorons to rescue in this version.
