"In ancient Hyrule, this garment could only be worn by the one who had earned the respect of the royal family. Equipping it will reveal an enemy's life gauge."
The Champion's Tunic is a tunic found in Breath of the Wild and Age of Calamity, and is the signature tunic of this reincarnation of Link.
Breath of the Wild
The Champion's Tunic has a base defense of 5. It can be obtained from Impa in Kakariko Village after one of Link's memories from Zelda's photos has been recovered.
This tunic, much like the Hero's Charm from The Wind Waker, allows Link to see the health of his foes. This can be particularly useful, as seeing the health of an enemy will allow the player to determine whether or not they want to engage with the enemy.
The tunic is the only piece of armor clothing and tunic in the base game that is enhanceable while not being dyeable. The only other pieces of armor with these characteristics are headgear like circlets and earrings. Other clothes with these properties include the amiibo-exclusive clothing items and sets, which are not part of the base game.
Enhance Path
Enhancing Armor requires that Link has unlocked as many Great Fairy Fountains as the desired star-level.

Non-Canon Appearances
This section describes a subject that is or may be outside the core Zelda canon. |
Mario Kart 8
The Champion's Tunic became available as an alternate costume for Link in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the release of the free Breath of the Wild × Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Link wears the Champion's Tunic in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as his default palette. Although the Champion's Tunic could not be dyed in Breath of the Wild, it has three other palettes in red (based on the color scheme of a Hylian Tunic), navy (based on the color scheme of a Royal Guard Uniform), and silver (partially based on Link's pajamas in Skyward Sword).
Skyrim
In the Switch release of Skyrim, the player can use amiibo to get items. The Legend of Zelda series amiibo have a chance of giving the player unique gear. Among this gear is the Champion's Tunic. It is similar to Elven Armor, but cannot be used with gauntlets, boots, or leggings.
Trivia
- During the E3 2016 Treehouse Demo, the Champion's Tunic was referred to as the Champion Shirt.
- This tunic, when completely enhanced, is the single most powerful armor item in the game with a total defense of 32. All other enhanceable armor parts are capped at ranges from 16 to 28.
- In-game, the tunic is part of a set of special garments bestowed to the Champions when given the task to defend Hyrule by King Rhoam before the Calamity. Mipha, Urbosa, Revali and Daruk are all shown wearing one unique to them. These garments are mentioned to have been personally made by Zelda herself.
- The Tunic's function to show the HP of enemies was a feature from the Sheikah Slate Health Sensor, a function that was removed from the game due to the fact that it was unwieldy. The Tunic truncated the process, removing all extra steps that the Sensor would have required.
