"A sword-and-shield combo modified for use by left-handed warriors. Charge energy by holding down the Strong Attack button, and then release for a powerful Spin Attack!"

— In-Game Description

The Hylian Sword is a weapon class used by Link in Hyrule Warriors. It is Link's default weapon class, as he receives it as part of his training in the Hyrulean Army. While wielding it, Link fights with a sword and shield combo, typical of his main weapon in The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Variations

The Hylian Sword's variations include the Knight's Sword, the White Sword, the Magical Sword, the Magical Sword+, and finally the Darkmagic Sword.

The Level ★ variation of the weapon is the 8-Bit Wooden Sword, which is based on the Wooden Sword and Shield from The Legend of Zelda.

Knight's Sword

The Knight's Sword is the Level 1 version of the Hylian Sword. It is based on the standard sword and shield used by the Hyrulean Army - the sword is silver-grey with a blue grip, while the shield has a brown, studded border, and its design is split in half: the left side is plain with an ornamental pattern, while the right side features vertical blue stripes.

White Sword

The White Sword is the Level 2 version of the Hylian Sword. Based on the namesake sword in The Legend of Zelda, the blade and the shield emblem are light blue, while the grip is a darker blue. The sword's pommel, the shield's accents, and the jewel in the crossguard are all gold, the crossguard itself being dark blue with a loop on either end.

Magical Sword

The Magical Sword is the Level 3 version of the Hylian Sword. The sword aesthetically resembles its namesake in The Legend of Zelda, but the design itself is taken from the box art of The Adventure of Link. Both the sword and shield primarily feature a red, black, and gold color scheme, with red jewels embedded along the sword's blade and in the crossguard and pommel. The blade itself is serrated, and the shield features a cross design that resembles the Magical Shield, a pair of circles surrounding the point of intersection.

The Magical Sword+ is the Level 4 version of the Hylian Sword, available only in Hyrule Warriors Legends and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition. It appears identical to the Magical Sword, although it is considerably stronger.

8-bit Wooden Sword

The 8-Bit Wooden Sword is the Level ★ version of the Hylian Sword, available only in Legends and Definitive Edition. It resembles an identical copy of the Wooden Sword and Shield from The Legend of Zelda, rendered in 3D. However, the shield bears a slightly different emblem, featuring a small diamond rather than a cross.

Darkmagic Sword

The Darkmagic Sword is the Level 4+ version of the Hylian Sword, only available in Legends and Definitive Edition. The weapon resembles the Magical Sword, but features a purple, black, and silver color scheme, to represent its secondary element.

Attacks and Combos

Attack Description
Base String Link performs a series of sword slashes; a downward diagonal slash from left-to-right,
C1 Link performs a horizontal Spin Attack; holding and releasing the button makes it wider and stronger. Holding the button after any of Link's other special moves has him perform three consecutive, horizontal Spin Attacks with a short forward radius, the third being slightly wider and stronger.
C2 Link performs a powerful upwards strike that knocks targets into the air. From there, he can follow up with three quick sword strikes (Y / B ,Y / B ,Y / B ), or with a [Down Thrust]] (X / Y ).
C3 Link performs a backflip before firing a Sword Beam straight ahead.
C4 Link performs a rising Spin Attack. From there, he can follow up with three quick sword strikes (Y / B ,Y / B ,Y / B ), or with a Down Thrust (X / Y ).
C5 Link charges forward with his shield in front of him, plowing through any enemies in his path, before finishing with a powerful thrust that sends enemies flying. This attack can be performed at any point in Link's basic attack string from the fourth strike onwards.

Special Attack

Link raises his sword to the sky, charging it with energy, before charging forward with a series of wide Spin Attacks. It is incredibly effective against groups of enemies, but is weaker against single-targets.

Weak Point Smash

  • Enemy Captain/Warrior: Link performs a series of wide slice attacks, followed by a powerful forward thrust.
  • Giant Boss: Link leaps high into the air, before performing a downward thrust into the bosses' core that goes all the way down to the hilt.

Focus Spirit Finisher

  • Manual: Link performs a single, forward thrust with a relatively long range.
  • Automatic: Link thrusts his sword to the sky and releases his remaining magic in a massive explosion of light around him, dealing moderate damage.
