"A sword-and-shield combo modified for use by left-handed warriors. Charge energy by holding down the Strong Attack button, and then release for a powerful Spin Attack!"

— In-game description

The Hylian Sword is a weapon class used by Link in Hyrule Warriors. It is Link's default weapon class, as he receives it as part of his training in the Hyrulean Army. While wielding it, Link fights with a sword and shield combo, typical of his main weapon in The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Variations

  • Knight's Sword: The Level 1 variation. The sword is silver-grey with a dark grey indent, and is paired with a thick grey cross-guard, a grey and blue grip, and a silver pommel. The shield is cast iron with a studded, brown outer edge, and features two designs: the left half features an ornamental pattern, while the right side features the vertical blue stripes of the Hyrulean Army.
  • White Sword: The Level 2 variation. The sword is pure white with a blue indent running along the entire blade, and is paired with a blue cross-guard, blue grip, and a gold pommel; the cross-guard features two hoops on either end, and a yellow gem is inset in the center. The shield is white with a blue outer edge, and features an ornamental design in blue and gold. Named after the White Sword from The Legend of Zelda.
  • Magical Sword: The Level 3 variation. The sword is serrated, with an ornamental indent featuring red gems, and glows red with magic. The blade is paired with a silver cross-guard, a red-and-scarlet grip, and a gold pommel with a red gem inlaid in it; the cross-guard features a highly ornamental design, with four red gems and two orange gems embedded in it. The shield is red with a gold outer edge and features a cross design similar to that of the Magical Shield, with a goldden, upside-down triangle in the center, and a circular indent at the center of the cross. Named after the Magical Sword from The Legend of Zelda, although the sword combines the color scheme of the former game with the design of The Adventure of Link.
  • 8-Bit Wooden Sword: The Level ★ variation. Link wields the Sword and Shield from The Legend of Zelda, rendered in 3D. The shield features a diamond symbol rather than a cross, likely to cater to modern gaming audiences.
  • Magical Sword +: The Level 4 variation. Its appearance is identical to the Magical Sword.
  • Darkmagic Sword: The Level 4+ variation. Its appearance is identical to the Magical Sword, but with a purple, grey, and black color scheme.

Moveset

NOTE: This section also covers the Master Sword, as both weapons use the same moveset. After completing "A War of Spirit" in Legend Mode, the Master Sword gains the ability to fire Sword Beams after certain attacks, so long as Link is at full health.

Attack Description
Base String? Link performs a series of nine attacks; He performs a diagonal right slash, a left slash, spins and performs another left slash, an upward slash, a right slash, a left slash, a right slash, a left slash, and performs a vertical Spin Attack. When using the Master Sword and at full health, Link will fire three Sword Beams ahead after the ninth attack.
C1? Link performs a Spin Attack; The player can charge it by holding X / Y , enabling Link to move freely before performing the attack. When using the Master Sword, the Spin Attack is wider, and the charged version carries Link forward a short distance.
C2? Link performs a rising upward swing that knocks enemies into the air; This can be extended, enabling Link to follow up with three aerial slashes and a Down Thrust, which can be used separately or in order. When using the Master Sword and at full health, the initial swing fires three vertical Sword Beams ahead, and each aerial slash fires a Sword Beam ahead.*
C3? Link backflips away, before rushing forward with a horizontal slash that fires a Sword Beam ahead. When using the Master Sword and at full health, Link will fire three Sword Beams.*
C4? Link performs a rising Spin Attack that knocks enemies into the air; This can be extended with the same follow-ups as Link's C2.*
C5? Link charges forward with his shield out, juggling enemies, before performing a forward thrust. This attack can be performed at any time during the base attack string, from the fourth hit onwards.
Special Attack Link raises his sword to the sky, charging it with sacred power, before performing a wide Spin Attack that carries him forward.
Focus Spirit Finisher Manual: Link backflips away, before performing a powerful forward thrust in front of him.
Automatic: Link raises his sword to the air, before releasing his remaining magic in an explosion of light around him.
Weak Point Smash Enemy Captain/Warrior: Link performs a series of slash attacks, followed by a forward thrust.
Giant Boss: Link stabs his sword deep into the Giant Boss's core, going all the way down to the hilt.
*Hold X / Y just after performing this Combo Attack to charge up; You can still move while charging, but faster than with the C1. Release the button to perform a
modified Spin Attack, which has a smaller radius but carries Link much further forward.

Trivia

  • If you press X / Y after dodging backwards, left, or right, Link will perform a forward thrust attack.
