"A sword-and-shield combo modified for use by left-handed warriors. Charge energy by holding down the Strong Attack button, and then release for a powerful Spin Attack!"

— In-game description

The Hylian Sword is a weapon class used by Link in Hyrule Warriors. It is Link's default weapon class, as he receives it as part of his training in the Hyrulean Army. While wielding it, Link fights with a sword and shield combo, typical of his main weapon in The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Variations

  • Knight's Sword: The Level 1 variation. It is based on the standard sword and shield used by the Hyrulean Army - the sword is silver-grey with a blue grip, while the shield has a brown, studded border, and its design is split in half: the left side is plain with an ornamental pattern, while the right side features vertical blue stripes.
  • White Sword: The Level 2 variation. Based on the namesake item in The Legend of Zelda, the blade and the shield emblem are light blue, while the grip is a darker blue. The sword's pommel, the shield's accents, and the jewel in the crossguard are all gold, the crossguard itself being dark blue with a loop on either end.
  • Magical Sword: The Level 3 variation. Based on the namesake item in The Legend of Zelda and The Adventure of Link, the sword combines the color scheme from the former with the design from the latter. It features a red, gold, and black color scheme, with a serrated blade and red jewels inset into the side, crossguard, and pommel. The shield sports the same color scheme, and features a cross design resembling that of the Shield in The Legend of Zelda; a pair of circles surround the point of intersection on the cross.
  • 8-Bit Wooden Sword: The ★ variation. Based on the Sword and Shield from The Legend of Zelda, rendered in 3D; the design on the shield has been changed, featuring a diamond symbol rather than a cross.
  • Magical Sword +: The Level 4 variation. Identical to the Magical Sword, but much more powerful.
  • Darkmagic Sword: The Level 4+ variation, which adds Hyrule Warriors Element Darkness.png Darkness as a secondary element. Identical to the Magical Sword, but with a purple, grey, and black color scheme.

Moveset

NOTE: This section also covers the moveset for the Master Sword, due to both weapons using the same moveset. While at full health, the Master Sword (provided "A War of Spirit" has been completed in Legend Mode) allows Link to fire Sword Beams after certain attacks; said occurences are described below.

Attack Description
Base String? Link performs a series of nine attacks; he does a diagonal right slash, a horizontal left slash, spin and do another left slash, a vertical up slash, a horizontal right slash, a horizontal left slash, a horizontal right slash, a horizontal left slash, and finishes with a vertical Spin Attack. With the Master Sword, Link will fire three Sword Beams ahead after the ninth attack.
C1? Link performs a horizontal Spin Attack; hold the button to charge it, allowing Link to move freely before performing it, and making the attack stronger and wider. When using the Master Sword and performing the charged version, Link will perform three Spin Attacks that carry him forward.
C2? Link jumps up and performs a vertical thrust, knocking enemies upward; From there, he can follow up with three sword swipes (Y / B ,Y / B ,Y / B ) and a Down Thrust (X / Y ). When using the Master Sword, the initial thrust fires three vertical Sword Beams forward, and the aerial swipes each fire a horizontal Sword Beam.*
C3? Link performs a backflip, before rushing forward with a horizontal slash; said slash will also fire a long-range Sword Beam ahead. When using the Master Sword, Link will fire three Sword Beams.*
C4? Link performs a rising, horizontal Spin Attack; once in the air, he can perform the same follow-ups as with his C2.*
C5? Link charges forward with his shield out in front, knocking enemies in his path upward, before performing a forward thrust. This attack can be performed at any time during the base attack string from the fourth hit onwards.
Special Attack Link raises his sword to the sky, charging it with sacred power, before charging forward with a series of wide Spin Attacks.
Focus Spirit Finisher Manual: Link backflips away, before performing a powerful forward thrust in front of him.
Automatic: Link raises his sword to the air, before releasing his remaining magic in an explosion of light around him.
Weak Point Smash Enemy Captain/Warrior: Link performs a series of slash attacks, followed by a forward thrust.
Giant Boss: Link stabs his sword deep into the Giant Boss's core, going all the way down to the hilt.
  • Hold X / Y just after performing this attack to charge up, enabling you to move while charging. Release the button to perform three horizontal Spin Attacks that carry Link a great distance forward.

Trivia

  • If you press X / Y after dodging backwards, left, or right, Link will perform a forward thrust attack.
