Complete these Quests to unlock permanent upgrades for Link.

Central Hyrule

Hyrule Swordfighting Academy Initial: A great swordmaster wants to start a monster-fighting workshop, but she lacks materials to build her classroom. Help provide the resources she needs!
Completed: "With the materials Link provided, the swordmaster built a perfect classroom! As thanks for his help, she offered to let him join the class.
To Unlock: Complete The Battle of Hyrule Field.
Materials Needed:
Keeping the Village Peace Initial: Some villagers have asked the swordmaster to take care of all the Lizalfos skulking around town. Unfortunately, her hands are full... Perhaps Link can take care of it?
Completed: The swordmaster was delighted to see Link return to the classroom with proof of the Lizalfos's defeat. She passed along the good news to the villagers.
To Unlock: Complete "Hyrule Swordfighting Academy".
Materials Needed:
Study the Blade Initial: To refine his sword technique, Link has been instructed to train in Hyrule Field by...cutting grass. He'll have to collect proof of some kind to show that he's completed the assignment.
Completed: After training, Link realized he could swing his sword more swiftly, giving foes less chance to strike. He really did learn something from cutting grass!
To Unlock: Complete Mipha, the Zora Princess, Daruk, the Goron Hero, Revali, the Rito Warrior, and Urbosa, the Gerudo Chief.
Materials Needed:
The Blade that Pierces the Eye Initial: A menacing Hinox has appeared near the swordmaster's classroom, frightening the students. Defeat the creature to set their minds at ease.
Completed: Upon Link's return, the swordmaster praised him for beating the Hinox. "This is proof of your growth. Keep up your training, and your skill may someday rival my own."
To Unlock: Complete Freeing Korok Forest.
Materials Needed:
Heartfelt Thanks Initial: After all of her help training Link and the other students, the swordmaster is setting off on a journey to discover new lands. Give her supplies for the road ahead as thanks for her teachings.
Completed: The swordmaster was deeply moved by Link's parting gifts. The two of them had one last sparring match to say goodbye.
To Unlock: Complete "The Blade that Pierces the Eye".
Materials Needed:
Frog Side Effects Initial: Link has been asked to help Princess Zelda study the effects of frog-based elixirs. She needs more specimens to use in her experiments. Why doesn't he make himself useful and catch some?
Completed: Link brought an impressive haul of frogs to the research lab! Princess Zelda used the abundant amphibians to make great strides in her research.
To Unlock: Complete Akkala Tower and The Royal Escort.
Materials Needed:
The Knight's Gauntlet Initial: Link has been called to take on the Knight's Gauntlet, a punishing trial that pushes even the most capable soldiers to their limits. He cannot afford to neglect strengthening his body.
Completed: The Knight's Gauntlet was grueling, but thanks to the fortifying foods Link had eaten, he passed with flying colors. The instructor crooned, "Truly, you are a knight among knights!"
To Unlock: Complete Each Step Like Thunder.

Making a Monster Initial: A youth from Hateno Village wants to make a monster dummy that he can use for two-handed weapon practice. If only he had some monster parts to craft it...
Completed: With the materials Link gave him, the youth was able to make a true-to-life monster dummy. The pair trained together, improving Link's skill with two-handed weapons.
To Unlock: Complete at least two Chapter 2 scenarios.
Materials Needed:
The Hateno Defense Squad Initial: In preparation for the Calamity, the youths of Hateno Village have banded together to defend the town. Link ought to bring them a little something to show his support.
Completed: The Hateno Defense Squad loved the gifts Link brought them! Seeing them take initiative inspired him to put even more effort into his own training.
To Unlock: Complete Mipha, the Zora Princess, Daruk, the Goron Hero, Revali, the Rito Warrior, and Urbosa, the Gerudo Chief.
Materials Needed:
The Volunteer Army Initial: The people of Hyrule are forming a volunteer army, and members of the Hateno Defense Squad are among the enlistees. Perhaps Link can help young militia get off on the right foot.
Completed: Link was showered with thanks for his support of the volunteer army! Practicing two-handed weapon fighting with the energetic recruits, he felt their enthusiasm rubbing off on him.
To Unlock: Complete "The Hateno Defense Squad".
Materials Needed:
Refuel Motivation Initial: The volunteer army has invited brave souls from across Hyrule to train together and prepare for the Calamity. Get some provisions for the big day.
Completed: With their stomachs full of tasty food, the fighters really threw themselves into the joint training session! All the participants improved their two-handed weapon skill.
To Unlock: Complete Relentless as a Waterfall.
Materials Needed:
A Spear-ited Combatant Initial: Link wants to practice at the spear training ground, but the instructor won't let him in. It looks like he'll have to prove himself by defeating a multitude of spear-wielding monsters...
Completed: With a grin, the instructor informed Link that beating the Lizalfos was actually his first lesson. It seems Link's spear training is off to a good start.
