Lava Geysers, also referred to as Fire Geysers, Pillars of Lava[1], Columns of Lava[2], Lava Vents[3], Lava Fountains[4], or Lava Spouts[5], are obstacles found in numerous Zelda titles, first appearing in The Wind Waker.

The Wind Waker

Lava Geysers appear frequently when Link is traversing Dragon Roost Cavern. In most cases they spew out from the lava below, or from the side of walls. These act as simple obstacles that require Link to wait for them to subside, before then passing by. In a few cases, Lava Geysers are used to raid solid platforms up, allowing Link to ride on top of the solid platforms to reach higher elevations.

In multiple instances within Dragon Roost Cavern, Link will need to use a Water jar, tossing the water onto the lava. When water and lava interact, a solid platform is created and Link can ride it up to a higher level.
