Biography
Aria, like Impa, Frederick, Shadow Link, and Shadow Zelda, cannot be played in Story Mode, Octavo's Ode, or Symphony of the Mask. Aria cannot acquire new weapons beyond her initial Dagger, and has a permanent half a heart container of health, making any enemy attack fatal. Furthermore, Aria takes damage when she misses a beat, making her the most difficult character in the game.
In Crypt of the NecroDancer, Aria used the Golden Lute in order to heal sick townsfolk. However, they became greedy and desired the Lute for themselves, turning against Aria; Deciding that the Lute had to be destroyed, Aria sought out the NecroDancer and requested his help, but he tricked her and stabbed Aria in the heart, killing her and taking the Lute for himself. After the player completes a run as Melody, she uses the Golden Lute to resurrect the NecroDancer and demands answers on how to remove its curse; She will die if she ever stops playing the Lute, but the instrument will eventually consume her humanity. The NecroDancer refuses and attacks her; He is defeated and attempts to flee, but Aria, having also been resurrected by the Lute, appears and casts the NecroDancer into a chasm, killing him again.

Cadence (Granddaughter)

Aria is a playable character in Cadence of Hyrule, added in the Character Pack DLC. She is the maternal grandmother of Cadence.

Biography

Intending to finish what she started, Aria takes the Lute and attempts to escape from the crypt to the surface, where she can perform a ritual at the altar to lift the Golden Lute's curse. Aria eventually manages to escape the tomb, but the Lute, in a final act to save itself, transforms into an enormous monster and attempts to kill Aria. Despite the odds, Aria defeats the Lute, sacrificing her life to break the curse. Aria is buried and mourned by her family.

In Cadence of Hyrule, Aria is a DLC character who can be used in Dungeon Mode. She can only use Daggers, and has no offensive or defensive techniques; Additionally, due to the dagger in her heart, Aria starts with 1-2 Heart.png and cannot gain health by any means; If she takes damage or misses a beat, she will die instantly.

Trivia

 • In music, an Aria is a self-contained piece for a single voice. Arias are written to be difficult to perform, in order to provide expert concert singers with an opportunity to demonstrate their skill; This reflects Aria's status as the toughest character in the game.
