{{quote|The Legend of Zelda XD2: Mercuris Chess is the sequel of the first XD parodic game, and was also released on April 1st, in 2017 this time. As a direct sequel, the overworld is expanded, the story is extended and the funny tone is kept, if not bettered!
The game was made in 10 weeks (!), beginning with an a discussion about how people always mispronounce Mercuris Chest (note the T at the end). Diarandor suggested that a game could be named Mercuris Chess to make fun of the title, and the same day it was decided that it would be the next big April’s fools joke.
The team worked really hard, and you can feel the improvements from the previous games. The game has 2 dungeons, and lots of side-quests and secrets everywhere, and also feature silly NPCs around the overworld. Be sure to speak to every one to not miss a joke!|Solarus Team}}

'''''The Legend | '''''The Legend of Zelda: Darkness Uprising''''' is a fan game made by Zsanctuary Productions. Unlike most Zelda games, there are no swords, shields or boomerangs. {{quote|This game is a procedurally-generated rogue-like ‘Link to the Past’ dungeon crawler. It’s not a rom hack, it was created in Gamemaker Studio from scratch using the original assets. This article describes a subject that is or may be outside the core Zelda canon. |
Some fans are inspired by The Legend of Zelda series; for tribute, they even make Fan Games based on this series. There are three types of Zelda fan games: original fan games, remakes, and hacks. All these games are for non-profit and made by a group of dedicated Zelda fans. All these games are also considered non-canonical. Here is a listing of some completed Zelda fan games!
Romhacks
- Main article: Romhack
A romhack is a fan game which is built by hacking a backup of an existing official game (called a "rom" after the Read Only Memory which cartridges stored data on).

Zelda Classic is a tribute to The Legend of Zelda. Beginning as an exact replica of the original NES game, Zelda Classic allows the development of new quests that can use either the traditional graphics or enhanced graphics, as well as new enemies, items, and challenges. It was renamed to ZQuest Classic in July 2022 over trademark issues, although the ZeldaClassic.com domain still works as of April 2023.
Originally, it was released for DOS. As of 2023, versions are released for Windows 10+, MacOS and Linux.

Mystery of Solarus DX
The Legend of Zelda: Mystery of Solarus is an old creation of Zelda Solarus Team, made with RPG Maker 2000 software. The development of the game lasted a year and a half. It was released on April 26, 2002, and has been downloaded over 600,000 times. This game is intended to be a logical extension of "A Link to the Past" on SNES.
An enhanced remake, The Legend of Zelda: Mystery of Solarus DX was unveiled on April 1st, 2008 and written in C++. Its objectives are to correct the many flaws of its predecessor: the battle system, the bosses, the use of items, etc. However, that is hardly all of it as new graphical elements and musics will accompany you throughout the game.
This Deluxe version will be the opportunity for you to relive the adventure in a brand new way, or even to discover it for the first time if you've never played it before! The full game was released in French on December 16th, 2011, and is now also available in English.
Current versions (1.12.3) are available as quests for the Solarus launcher program for Windows, macOS and Linux.

XD2: Mercuris Chess
"The Legend of Zelda XD2: Mercuris Chess is the sequel of the first XD parodic game, and was also released on April 1st, in 2017 this time.
The team worked really hard, and you can feel the improvements from the previous games. The game has 2 dungeons, and lots of side-quests and secrets everywhere, and also feature silly NPCs around the overworld. Be sure to speak to every one to not miss a joke!"

This fan game was created by Kao in the Spring of 2000. This was the first game featured in ZeldaPower's original Fan Game section. This is a fairly decent game, with some fun gameplay, nice animation, and a good plot. You'll have to deal with some primitive graphics and clunky controls, though.
Plot
One night, while all of Hyrule slept, Zelda left the castle. She was headed for Ganon's old lair because she felt something was going on there. She knew Ganon was back again. BUT HOW?
Zelda used her telepathy to contact Link. "I fear Ganon is immortal!" she stammered. "I am going to try to fight him. Get the three mystical objects from three secret chambers. Then come to Ganon's lair! Hurry to the lake!" Who could have known it could have gone so wrong?

Developer | Justin Bohemier |
"This game is a procedurally-generated rogue-like ‘Link to the Past’ dungeon crawler. It’s not a rom hack, it was created in Gamemaker Studio from scratch using the original assets. Many new features and assets were added to this game, but special care was put in to ensure it still looks, feels, and plays like the original game.
The goal of the game is to descend through the many enemy-infested dungeons to defeat Link’s nemesis, Aghanim. Along the way you will find many weapons, items, and treasures that will help you along your quest.
This game is designed in the style of a Rogue-like dungeon crawler, which means:
- The dungeon layouts, items, and enemies are randomly generated every time you play.
- If you die, you will have to restart at the beginning. No continues or extra lives.
I worked on this game full-time for over 4 years. This is by far my greatest achievement."

Remakes
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link 3D
Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link 3D is a remake of the first section of The Adventure of Link, as a first-person shooter using UnityWebPlayer.
"This game was incredibly fun to make. I am a fan of the original NES game and love its innovations and clever game design. But as we all know, Zelda games are long and complex. When starting this project I had to choose very carefully what I had time to accomplish if this game was ever to see the light of day. As a result I decided to remake the beginning of the game up to the end of the first boss. This seemed simple enough, but I knew it would be a challenge. This is the result of my learning programming for the first time and a labor of love making this game in 3D."
In 2019, Johnston ported the existing part of the game to Unity WebGL to ensure it continued to be playable, but observed that:
"After I first made this fan game, I did want to continue it. I modeled and animated the Goriya enemy and had layouts for the 2nd and 3rd palaces. However, after seeing how Nintendo DMCAs these types of projects I figured it wasn't worth it."

I’ve flirted with game making for a while but never finished something. This was my chance to do that (well, over the course of four years, I guess). Over time, remastered versions of these notorious titles was something I wanted for myself as well.
[...]
...they were remade from scratch, so movement, enemy spawns, and a litany of other things will be different (I’m sure someone will catalog all the differences eventually). However, they are based off of the originals and mimic them very closely...as mentioned, speed of movement, slight collision differences, and frequency and some locations of enemy spawns will be different. The game was tweaked and re-balanced around these changes for a more fun experience. I did my best to create what I think a modern release of these games would look and play like."
While the original Google Drive release of the games was removed shortly after release, the files were preserved on archive.org, and further patches made by persons unknown.
The same creator later made a "spiritual successor", Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore.

"In the 1990s Nintendo made a deal with Philips to develop 3 Zelda titles. The first 2 were side scrolling platformers, similar to Zelda II, and the third was a traditional top-down action adventure game.
Zelda’s Adventure looked interesting and I thought it would be fun to play on a portable system. I chose the Game Boy because of the existing Zelda games on the system.
The game sticks to the aesthetics of Link’s Awakening, but also incorporates some features from Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons.
This is a complete port of the CDi original and was developed in GB Studio, with a few modifications. Thanks to Beatscribe for composing the music. I hope you enjoy playing the game as much as enjoyed making it."
