Eustus is a character in Tears of the Kingdom

Tears of the Kingdom

Eustus is a member of the Stable Trotters, a musical troupe who play at various stables. The Great Fairy Mija particularly likes his playing.

The Hornist's Dramatic Escape

Main article: The Hornist's Dramatic Escape

Eustus has gotten himself in a bind. He was traveling to Rito Village to deliver some goods, but lost control over his wagon and fell in a ditch.[1][2] He won't leave unless he can get his wagon out as well.[3]

He asks Link for help, which starts the The Hornist's Dramatic Escape. Eustus makes hints of some magical ways that he can be rescued, such as the wagon suddenly taking to the air, or a ramp mysteriously appearing.[4]

In order to complete the Side Adventure, Link will need to get Eustus to sit in the wagon.[5][6][7][8] By attaching a Flame Emitter and a Balloon to the wagon, he can get it to float up. Link can then use Ultrahand to pull the wagon to safety. Alternatively, Link can use the nearby Hyrule Restoration Materials and simply create a ramp. Then he can use Ultrahand to grab the wagon and simply walk out of the hole.[9][10]

After saving him from the hole, Eustus mentions that he is going to return to the Stable Trotters to rejoin his bandmates.[11] He mentions that his bandmates are back at Woodland Stable and that many people would benefit from hearing them play.[12] As a reward, Eustus will give Link some Courser Bee Honey.[13]

Serenade to Mija

Main article: Serenade to Mija

Violynne and Mastro will appear at the Snowfield Stable. After completing The Hornist's Dramatic Escape, Eustus will join them at the Stable. Mastro wants to perform for Mija, who always liked the timbre of Eustus's Horn.[14] The roof of the Breezer is broken though. Link can repair it by placing a Board on the roof, protecting the troupe from the harsh weather conditions.

After using a horse to pull the wagon to the Great Fairy, the Stable Trotters will perform for Mija. Eustus himself is delighted, saying that he will remember the moment for all his life.[15] Mastro will then reward Link with a Silver Rupee.

Serenade to Cotera

Main article: Serenade to Cotera

Later in the game after, if Link has already saved Eustus, he'll appear back at the Dueling Peaks Stable. He thanks Link once again for helping him and how beneficial his horn is to the Stable Trotters. Despite this, he fears his dream of playing to travelers won't be fully realized until the troupe can perform as a complete ensemble.[16] He mentions that Beetz was in southeast Necluda, thinking that maybe he traveled to Kakariko Village to see the Ring Ruins.[17]

After Link completes the Honey, Bee Mine quest, Beetz will join the troup. They will travel to the Squabble River, but are unable to cross it due to the strong current. Eustus will comment that even a strong horse can't swim against the strong current.[18] After Link creates a raft or flying device, he can transport the troupe to the Great Fairy, where they will perform for Cotera and complete the Serenade to Cotera quest.

Stable Trotters Reunited

After saving all four of the Great Fairies, all of the members of the Stable Trotters will be reunited. As a thanks to Link for being a hero, they rename their group the Stable Heroes. Eustus wants the group to pour all its thoughts and feelings into the music, so that it soothes not just the Grreaty Fairies, but every traveler who visits a stable.[19] The group can then be seen playing at all the Stables throughout Hyrule.

  1. "Ugh... Oh, hey! Did you come down here to rescue me?" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  2. "It happens to the best of us. I was heading to Rito Village, which is suffering through a fierce blizzard, to cheer them up with music and supplies. I got my wagon going at a pretty good clip on this road, but then I suddenly drove into this hole. It's never been here before! The horse I was riding ran off somewhere, and my cargo has spoiled. The only thing I have left is the wagon. I haven't figured out how to get both me and my wagon out of this hole, and I won't leave it behind. Which leaves me stuck here, plain and simple. It's nice to know I'm not the only one this happens to. But it would be nicer if you had a plan to free us from this hole." — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  3. "I can't climb up the wall of this hole, and even if I could, I wouldn't want to leave without my wagon. Ahhh...if only someone could pull my wagon out of the hole with me in it. Is that too much to hope for?" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  4. "Yeah...you're right. I might as well wish for my wagon to take to the air. Or for some kind of ramp out of the hole to mysteriously appear. Either of those is as likely as the wagon getting lifted out by some invisible force. I shouldn't go hoping for a miracle..." — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  5. "Hmmm. Is it impossible to get me out of the hole while I'm riding in the wagon after all?" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  6. "What? You can actually make this happen? All right, then. Let's hope you know what you're doing!" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  7. "There we go. I'm in the wagon! Ready to go!" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  8. "Are you having trouble with this? Would it help if I got back out?" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  9. "Woah! I'm out of the hole?!" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  10. "Whew! I'm finally out!" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  11. "I got so nervous, I fogged up my glasses and missed what you did... But you did it! You actually did it! Thank you so much! If you hadn't come along, I don't know how much longer I would have been stuck in that hole. Come to think of it, if I hadn't made such a rash decision during the earliest days of the Upheaval, and run off on my troupe... maybe things wouldn't have ended up like this. I mean, the supplies I collected to help feed Rito Village have all spoiled by now anyway. I should get back to the Stable Trotters and rejoin my bandmates. That will do more good." — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  12. "Oh, have you not heard of us? Us Stable Trotters are a music troupe that goes around stables to perform. If I had to guess...it's out of your way, but they might be near Woodland Stable over in Eldin. After I return this wagon I borrowed, I'm going to rejoin the troupe. There are so many people who would benefit from hearing us play!" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  13. "Oh! One more thing! Take this, please! It's a cooking ingredient I picked up in my travels. This is the least I can do for you getting me out of there. And now I'd better be on my way. I'm sure we'll bump into each other again. I look forward to playing my horn for you!" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  14. "Alas, the Great Fairy is hiding inside her flower bud. She's too frightened to come out, just like her sister at Woodland Stable. This Great Fairy always like the timbre of Eustus's horn, so I thought to calm her nerves with his soothing tootles. I'd like to depart for the Great Fairy's bud straightway. Only one small hitch..." — Mastro, Tears of the Kingdom
  15. "The Great Fairy herself enjoyed my humble horn playing. What a day! What a divine presence! What a splendor! I will remember this moment all my life." — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  16. "Nice day, isn't it? Thanks for stopping by! You've truly been there for us when we've needed you, traveler. That's an idea that I'd like to bring into my playing more. My horn can also truly be there for the rest of the troupe—and through our music, for travelers who come to hear us. But I fear that dream will not be realized until our troupe can perform as a complete ensemble." — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  17. "Beetz said he was heading to Necluda in the southeast to look for something. He appreciates anything new, so maybe he went to see the Ring Ruins in Kakariko Village. I hope Beetz found whatever he was looking for. I'm happy to keep working on my own music so we can build toward the ultimate performance." — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  18. "We're so close I can taste it. But even a strong horse can't swim against that current. What hope do we have?" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
  19. "It's up to us to pour all our thoughts and feelings into our music when we play. From now on, I want our music to soothe every traveler who comes to the stables, not just the Great Fairies!" — Eustus, Tears of the Kingdom
