The Sheikah Sensor is an upgrade to the Sheikah Slate in Breath of the Wild and Age of Calamity.
Appearances
Breath of the Wild
The Sheikah Sensor targets Shrines and bleeps when Link is close to one, louder and more frequently as he moves closer; and the opposite as he moves further away. It is obtained following the activation of any of the Sheikah Towers after leaving the Great Plateau, along with the map for said tower region.
Bringing three Ancient Screws to Purah as part of the Slated for Upgrades side quest gives Link the option to upgrade the Sensor to the Sheikah Sensor +. This allows Link to search for any item catalogued in the Hyrule Compendium, rather than only Shrines. The side quest Sunshroom Sensing acts as a tutorial for this.
If set to Shrines, the icon is cyan-blue. If set to any other target, it is green. It can also be disabled entirely.
Age of Calamity
"If you press X while material objectives are displayed, like with quests or cooking recipes, you are able to track the required materials. You can also search for specific materials."
The Sheikah Sensor is unlocked by completing the Needed: Researchers! quest. It allows the player to register materials for up to two other quests; two sets of Cooking materials; or any five materials they have already obtained, on the map.
Quests registered as such are also available to view in the pause menu during Scenarios, and the game will alert the player with a pop-up in the top right when they have gathered enough materials for a registered quest.
