— In-Game Description

Tough Pumpkin Stew is a piece of food in Breath of the Wild.

Breath of the Wild

If Link cooks Fortified Pumpkin, Tabantha Wheat, Goat Butter and some Fresh Milk over a Cooking Pot, he will create some Tough Pumpkin Stew. Eating this will temporarily reduce the damage he takes to enemies when attacked, in addition to restoring a variable number of hearts. Cooking under a Blood Moon may increase this effect.

Adding ingredients with clashing effects will cancel the Tough effect out, leaving a plain Pumpkin Stew, or other meal. There is no benefit to doing this. Adding another "Tough" ingredient - Armoranth, Ironshroom, Armored Carp, Ironshell Crab or Armored Porgy - will still make Tough Pumpkin Stew, in spite of the added ingredient.

Unless a critical success happens - either randomly or from cooking under the Blood Moon - eating the meal with its basic recipe will grant a "low-level defense boost". Using an Armored Porgy as a fifth ingredient will grant a "mid-level defense boost", and may grant a "high-level defense boost" with a critical success.
