The Poe Collector is a character that have appeared in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. He has a hobby and curiosity of collecting Poes.
Ocarina of Time
In Ocarina of Time, the Poe Collector lives in the Castle Town inside his Ghost Shop. Link first encounters him as an adult, and sees him as a Poe Collector, as the name suggests. He collects poes in a cage that are angry spirits that hates life. After Ganondorf demolished Castle Town, the Poe Collector thought that it was a perfect time to start a shop there. If Link brings him a Big Poe that is found outside in Hyrule Field, he will put 100 points on his card and grant him with 50 Rupees. Furthermore, when collecting 10 Big Poes of total, he will reward Link with an Empty Bottle.
Majora's Mask
In Majora's Mask, Link encounters the Poe Collector occasionally throughout the game. He also runs a mini-game in the Ikana Canyon, where Link must defeat all the Poe Sisters to be rewarded with a Piece of Heart. Unlike his Ocarina of Time counterparts, he appears more often in the game, giving Link information about certain things throughout his journey. The first time Link encounters him is on the Road to Ikana, sitting atop the hill that leads to the Ikana Canyon. However, he will not allow Link to enter the canyon directly, as he is not suitable for such place, but when he wears the Garo's Mask while speaking to him, he will summon a withered tree near the ledge of the hill which allows Link to enter the canyon by latching onto it with the Hookshot.[1] He also explains that the Ikana Canyon is where regretful spirits without serenity resides.[2][3][4][5][6] Link can then enter the Ikana Canyon and participate his mini-game. The last time Link encounters him is in the Secret Shrine, found behind the waterfall in Ikana Canyon. He informs Link that he succeeded to dispatch the spirits in Ikana into serenity, and that the creatures in the shrine have been awaiting Link for a long time.[7][8][9][10][11] After Link defeats all the four mini-bosses in the shrine, he will once again meet up with the Poe Collector.[12][13] After speaking to him, he will disappear, leaving behind a treasure chest containing a Piece of Heart.[14][15]
Trivia
- When Link talks to the soldier at nighttime at the exact same locale as the Poe Collector is in, he will state that he is interested in ghosts and that studying ghosts is a hobby of his. It is possible that the soldier and the Poe Collector is the same.
