The Split Timeline Theory was speculated among fans immediately following the release of ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time|Ocarina of Time]]''. After finishing the game the player might notice that there are actually two endings, One ending where Zelda sends Link back in time and they stop Ganondorf from rising to power. The other one being where Zelda stays in the future, This is the alternate reality where Link has been sent back but Ganondorf still remains imprisoned within the Sacred Realm. The former being the '''Child Timeline''' where Link gets sent back to his original time becoming a child and continuing his adventure, This leaves the future without a Link springing a chain of events that are known as the [[Adult Timeline]].

Majora's Mask

Twilight Princess

Many years after Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess takes place. With Ganondorf in the Sacred Realm, the people of Hyrule build and form civilization anew. Keeping his promise, however, Ganondorf returns to haunt Link and Zelda's descendants. He forms a pact with Zant, breaking free from the Twilight Realm after an unsuccessful sealing in the Mirror of Twilight by the Ancient Sages. Using Zant, he takes over Hyrule, imprisoning Zelda and covering the land in Twilight. Link successfully defeats him at the end of the game.
