Skyward Sword

The Practice Sword is found inside a Treasure Chest in the back room of the Sparring Hall in Skyloft. After Link learns from Fledge that Groose and his friends trapped his Loftwing near Waterfall Cave, Pipit warns Link that the cave is dangerous to explore and that he should borrow a sword from Knight Commander Eagus before he enters the cave - Eagus is happy to see Link is willing to train even on the Wing Ceremony, and lets him borrow a sword[1]. After obtaining the Practice Sword, Eagus attempts to stop Link from taking the sword out of the hall, but upon hearing his reason, allows him to borrow the Practice Sword so long as he doesn't hurt anyone.[2]

The Practice Sword is an incredibly weak weapon, but nonetheless is required to access Waterfall Cave by cutting down the palm trees blocking the entrance. Link must also use it to remove the wooden planks keeping his Loftwing penned in, and therefore free it. It is replaced by the Goddess Sword after Link obtains it.

  1. "Hey! It's [Link]! So you still want to get in some sword practice, even though today is the Wing Ceremony? I'm impressed. The sword is in the back room. Go on back there and get it. I'll be here for a while, so if there's anything you don't understand about handling a sword, go ahead and ask." — Eagus, Skyward Sword.
  2. "What? Your Loftwing is missing? You want to go look for it? Well I guess I could make an exception just this once. But remember that Skyloft is a peaceful place. Only knights carry swords! So I don't want to see you swinging it around like crazy out there! I don't want to get in a ton of trouble over this, so here's the deal... Make sure you get plenty of practice on these logs first, and once you get outside with that sword, only use it when you absolutely have to, got it?" — Eagus, Skyward Sword.
