Bongo Bongo is the Boss of the Shadow Temple, the seventh Dungeon in Ocarina of Time. It is a huge spirit that is partly invisible and plays the bongo. Its hands are separated from its body and are the only parts of him that are visible without the aid of the Lens of Truth.

History

Bongo Bongo was sealed in the Bottom of the Well by Impa, but he breaks the seal and escapes to the Shadow Temple later in the game.

The Battle

Boss of the Shadow Temple,
revived from the well. Look at it
with the eye of truth!

The battle takes place on an extremely large bongo (hence the name Bongo Bongo) deep below the Shadow Temple. During the battle only Bongo Bongo's hands are visible without the use of the Lens of Truth. Also, during the battle, he beats his drum in a repetitive pattern with every forth beat bouncing Link up making it difficult to shoot the Bow if not Z-targeting. There are seven attacks that Bongo Bongo utilizes that are predictable for the most part. Use of the Hover Boots for stability is strongly recommended.

Strategies

There are three main strategies used to defeat Bongo Bongo.

Strategy 1

The first of the three strategies is to use Link's Fairy Bow. The easiest way to do this strategy is for Link to Z-target whichever hand Bongo Bongo is not attacking with and shoot it. During most of his attacks, the hand attacking is invulnerable and the one not attacking is vulnerable and it can be hit. Although, when he claps, it is not necessary to be picky-just shoot one before he claps.

Strategy 2

The next strategy is using the Sword. All Link has to do is: when Bongo Bongo attacks, run to the hand that isn't attacking, slash it, then run to the spot where the other hand returns to and slash it when it comes.

Strategy 3

The last strategy is fairly simple. If Link has the Ice Arrows, he can shoot one of the hands causing it to freeze. The other hand then tries to break the ice off the frozen hand and Bongo Bongo's eye opens and hence, makes itself vulnerable.

Once Both Hands Are Stunned...

Once both hands are stunned, Bongo Bongo proceeds to use the Charge attack. When this happens, have Link equip the Lens of Truth and do one of two things. Either Link can shoot his eye with an arrow or perform a Spin Attack when the fists are on both sides of him (Although the Lens of Truth is not required in this battle, it is recommended unless Link knows exactly where to shoot). After Bongo Bongo is down, Link should slash away with the Sword.
