Agus is a character in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Breath of the Wild

Agus is a traveling merchant who travels from his home of Hateno Village, through Fort Hateno, and all the way to the Dueling Peaks Stable. He travels alongside his donkey companion, who carries most of the goods that Agus sells on its back.[1] Agus sells some more uncommon items that Link doesn't find very often, including Goat Butter, Fresh Milk, and Bird Eggs, making his shop a bit useful if Link is looking for specific items. He encourages Link to buy his food to create Hateno Village's signature dish, which uses all three ingredients.[2] Agus is constantly on the move, very rarely stopping. As soon as he arrives back at his home town of Hateno Village, he stocks up and makes the trip back out to the Dueling Peaks Stable.[3]

Agus will comment about the various locations of the region, depending on where he is at the time. When traveling north from the Dueling Speaks Stable, he comments about Kakariko Village to the north, although he states that he doesn't travel there, since Kakariko Village grows their own vegetables and it wouldn't be good for business.[4]

Occasionally, Agus can be a little jumpy, as he was spooked by a weird looking tree ghost. Given where he states this, it is likely he is referring to Hestu, who can be found just north of Lake Siela and resembles that of a tree. Hestu can be a bit loud, capable of spooking any people passing by.[5][6]

Tears of the Kingdom

Early on, Agus can be found alongside Teli, Joute, and Endai at Batrea Lake, just east of the Owlan Bridge. The group is on their way to the Riverside Stable, but stopped due to all of them getting sick.

Gourmets Gone Missing

Main article: Gourmets Gone Missing

After completing the Potential Princess Sightings! quest, Link can speak with Penn at Riverside Stable to begin the Gourmets Gone Missing quest. The chef of Riverside Stable is waiting for Agus and the rest of the group to arrive at the stable so they can teach him one of Princess Zelda's recipes. However the group has not arrived. Link can find them all resting near Batrea Lake. If Link speaks with Agus, he can barely get the words out, but references Princess Zelda's recipe, and that it should be cooked as written, without improvising.[7] There is a Note on the Table with the ingredients for Princess Zelda's Meat and Rice Bowl.

After cooking the meal, Link can speak with Agus, and he asks Link for the meal.[8][9] After giving him the recipe, he calls over Joute, Teli, and Endai all to take a bite out of it.[10]

The group then gets up and Agus mentions that Princess Zelda taught them the recipe for the dish quite some time ago. He mentions how kind she was, and how she stressed how important it was to follow the recipe exactly.[11] The group ended up getting sick as Joute substituted some monster parts in.[12] Endai agreed, saying that it's always good to expand your palate.[13] Agus quiets them down before insisting the group must hurry and get to Riverside Stable. The group is already late and Gotter is sure to be worrying about them.[14] Agus will reward Link with some Hylian Rice, Rock Salt, and Raw Gourmet Meat.[15][16][17][18]

Riverside Stable

After Link has completed the Gourmets Gone Missing quest, Agus will appear at the Riverside Stable. He once again thanks Link for saving his life, saying that he now has a better understanding of the thin line between foodstuff and poison. He's now thinking about making different types of Meat and Rice Bowls, using other kinds of meat.[19] Additionally, Agus has taken an interest in the Dondons, wondering how it would taste on rice. After Link tells him the rumors are true and that the Dondons were discovered and raised by Zelda, Agus feels bad that he had the idea of cooking an animal the princess loved.[20] Agus is really ashamed and thinks he is the animal that should be cooked. He tells Link not to speak to anyone about this, as he is quite embarrassed.[21]

She was full of kindness for us, despite our group being a little ragged on the road. But I do remember now that she said we needed to follow the recipe exactly." — Agus, Tears of the Kingdom
  12. "That was me. I'm sorry... I was just curious what it would taste like. I thought maybe her recipe would work well with monster parts." — Joute, Tears of the Kingdom

I hear that and I wonder, how is it going to taste on rice?" — Agus, Tears of the Kingdom
  20. "You mean the rumors are true? Princess Zelda discovered these...Dondons, you called them, and raise them herself? I was going to cook an animal the princess loved in the recipe she taught me. How horrifying. All along, the real animal was me. I'm the one who deserves to be cooked and served on rice. ...Don't tell anyone about this! Got it?" — Agus, Tears of the Kingdom
  21. "I can't believe I wanted to cook those poor, sweet creatures lovingly raised by the princess herself. The only thing I deserve to eat is a big, flaky slice of humble pie with a side of shame soup. ...You better not speak one word of this to the princess! Got it?" — Agus, Tears of the Kingdom
