The Golden Deku Baba is a stronger variation of the standard Deku Baba. It will attack Link in the same ways as a standard deku baba by lunging towards Link, attempting to bite him. Its mouth is divided into four parts, rather than the two halves that a standard deku baba will have. This will allow the golden baba to alternate directions in which its mouth opens, meaning Link will have to slash either horizontally or vertically, depending on how its mouth is open. Additionally, unlike standard deku babas, the golden babas take multiple hits to defeat and can be quite challenging. | The Golden Deku Baba is a stronger variation of the standard Deku Baba. Appearances
Ocarina of Time
Deku Babas appear mostly throughout the Forest Temple, Kokiri Forest and Inside the Deku Tree. Their appearance is very similar to other Zelda games. They only reveal themselves when Link gets close to them, as in other Zelda games. Their attack method is to lunge at Link, which can easily be blocked by using Link's shield, or by simply backing away.If the Deku Baba attacks you, they will trap you in their mouth and continue to due small damage until they release you. If you kill Deku Babas when they are lunging out to attack you, you will obtain deku nuts, if you kill them when they are in their regular position, you will obtain Deku Sticks.
Big Deku Baba
- Main article: Big Deku Baba
A Big Deku Baba is a larger variation of the original Deku Baba. While it is a bit stronger than a standard Deku Baba, it has the same primary attacks. Big Deku Baba are found in the Kokiri Forest and the Forest Temple when Link is an adult.
Withered Deku Baba
- Main article: Withered Deku Baba
Withered Deku Baba's are weaker versions of the original Deku Baba. These fellows will not even attack Link and the only way to get hurt is if Link walks directly into them. A single sword slash will defeat them and they will always leave behind a Deku Stick as a reward. Withered Deku Baba can be found within the Kokiri Forest and Inside The Deku Tree. This variation of a Deku Baba can also be found within Majora's Mask.
Majora's Mask
The Deku Baba is a species of carnivorous plant famous for their short temper, feisty attitude, and their production of Deku Sticks and Deku Nuts upon defeat. A Deku Nut is the bud of the Baba, while a Deku Stick is the stalk. Deku Babas thrive in forested areas where other Deku species, such as Deku Scrubs and Deku Trees, usually preside. As such, the best place to find one is in the Swamp at woodfall. Deku Babas rarely exist alone, and it is very common to find a thriving patch of them in heavily forested areas.
Bio Deku Baba
- Main article: Bio Deku Baba
Bio Deku Baba's are alternate forms of a Deku Baba, hanging upside from the ceiling or underneath lilypads. Bio Deku Baba's can be found in Termina Field, Great Bay Temple, and Stone Tower Temple. Link can split them from the cieling or their lilypads and they'll drop to the ground where they will continue to walk around. If Link tries to land on top of the lilypad where a Bio Deku Baba is found, it will flip around and harm him.
Mini Baba
- Main article: Mini Baba
Mini Baba are tiny variations of a Deku Baba that completely lack stems. Thus, these creatures won't reach out and harm Link and can only hurt Link if he walks right into them. They are found exclusively within Southern Swamp and within underground caverns of Termina Field.
The Wind Waker
Deku Baba's did not make an appearance in The Wind Waker. However, a very similar enemy known as a Boko Baba did and it shared many of the same characteristics.

Twilight Princess
In Twilight Princess there are three variations of Deku Babas. The common one's will come out of a tiny patch of grass and attempt to attack Link when if gets too close. These can be taken out easily by being stunned with a projectile weapon (Arrows, boomerang, slingshot, etc.) then being slashed by Link's sword. The second type of Deku Baba is known as a Baba Serpent, which have 2 stages before death. First Link must cut their stem, then they'll slither along the ground, chomping their teeth and occasionally will lunge towards Link. Link must then attack them, or they will grab a hold of Link. The only way to get out of their grip is to perform a spin attack. Baba Serpents can also be found hanging from the ceiling. Again, using projectile weapons to stun them can be very helpful. The last type of Deku Baba is known as a Big Baba. These varieties are defeated by first defeating a snake-like carnivorous head, then throwing a bomb into the open flower part that the head grew from. The plant will then proceed to ingest the bomb, and explode. The Big Baba is fought twice, once in the Forest Temple, and once in the City of the Sky.

Blue Variation
Deku Babas greatly resemble their appearance from previous Zelda titles. They come out from underground and try to bite Link if he gets too close. A new feature is that when battling the Deku Babas, Link must slash in the direction that the enemy's mouth is open. Some Deku Babas need to be sliced vertically while others need to be sliced horizontally. Alternatively, Link can toss or roll a bomb towards a Deku Baba and it will gobble it up before exploding within its mouth.
Some Deku Babas can be seen hanging from walls or the ceiling and they are out of reach from Link's sword. In order to defeat these fellows, Link must use the beetle. After sending out the beetle, Link can track its direction so that it cuts down the deku babas from their stems, causing them to fall to the floor in defeat. Link can also use his bow and arrow to cut these deku babas from their stem.
Gold Variation
The Golden Deku Baba is a stronger variation of the standard Deku Baba. It will attack Link in the same ways as a standard deku baba by lunging towards Link, attempting to bite him. Its mouth is divided into four parts, rather than the two halves that a standard deku baba will have. This will allow the golden baba to alternate directions in which its mouth opens, meaning Link will have to slash either horizontally or vertically, depending on how its mouth is open. Additionally, unlike standard deku babas, the golden babas take multiple hits to defeat and can be quite challenging.
