The Ball and Chain is the dungeon item of the Snowpeak Ruins, the fifth dungeon in Twilight Princess. It is used to break ice found throughout the dungeon as well as the land of Hyrule.

Twilight Princess
The Ball and Chain is required to defeat certain enemies such as Freezards, Mini-Freezards and the boss of the Snowpeak Ruins, Blizzeta. It also makes defeating Chilfos much easier. The Ball and Chain can also be used to destroy objects,[2] such as suits of armor.[4]
The Ball and Chain is acquired after Link defeats the Mini-Boss, Darkhammer.[5] In the battle, he uses it against Link. The player must dodge the Ball and Chain by using the Clawshot to grapple to the panels on the roof. Then, run over and whack Darkhammer's exposed tail.
There is a nice little trick Link can use to utilize the Ball and Chain to its fullest: If he stands close enough, the Ball and Chain will attack twice: one more time when pulling it back towards himself. This is great because not many enemies are good at protecting their backs. It will kill enemies like Dinolfos in just one hit.
