The Sheikah Slate is a Key Item found in Breath of the Wild. It is found at the beginning of the game, when Link wakes up in the Shrine of Resurrection, on a nearby pedestal.
Overview
Link can use the Sheikah Slate in order to enter many Shrine of Trials scattered across Hyrule, or to use some of the different Runes in the game.
Functions
Map
The map is a very useful tool made available by the Sheikah Slate. In this game, the player can place stamps all around Hyrule to help locate Shrines, Korok Seeds, etc. The map is more detailed than ever before, displaying contour lines and place names for most geographical features, many of which are homages to previous Zelda Games. There are many areas of the map which are unlocked after authenticating the Sheikah Slate at each regions respective tower.
Runes
A key function of the Sheikah Slate are the unlockable Runes. These Runes include the Magnesis Rune, the Camera Rune, and more. The first four Runes are found in the Shrines situated on the Great Plateau, and are used at regular intervals throughout Link's quest.
