Tears of the Kingdom

Drenja is a member of the Zonai Survey Team, currently working in Kakariko Village where he is helping to analyze the Ring Ruins.

Initially Drenja can be found near the western most Ring Ruin, where he is listening in on Steen and Olkin argue about their difference in philosophy when it comes to battle. Steen and Olkin were sent to clear the monsters that were found at the western Ring Ruin as part of the Codgers' Quarrel‎‎, but their inability to agree led them to just stand around and wait for Link to arrive. The arguing frustrated Drenja, who is waiting for them to clear the monsters so he can resume his research.[1][2][3]

Drenja wants to examin the Ring Ruin as there is a Stone Slab nscribed with Zonai writing on it. He's worried the monsters might destroy the artifact.[4][5] After Link clears the monsters, Drenja thanks him as he can now return to his research.[6] He mentions that Tauro has translated some of the Zonai writing already and also that the particular Ring Ruin is going to examine talks about the requirements to becoming a Sage.[7] Becoming a Sage required more than being exceptional, but one also needed to have Secret Stone.

  7. "This is one of five ring-shaped ruins that fell in the area. They're all broken open except for the floating one within the village itself. When that happened, chambers with stone slabs were exposed. These slabs provide rare examples of Zonai writing. Someone placed them very carefully. They must have been important objects—I can't believe I get to study them! Tauro has translated a bit of it already. This particular stone slab seems to detail requirements for becoming a "sage." Apparently, not only did you need to be exceptional in some way, you also needed a secret stone. I'd never heard of these secret stones before reading this! There's still so much mystery in the world. If you want the exact text, you can read the translation next to the stone slab. It must have been important. It's a shame we don't yet know what they meant by "sage" and "secret stone."" — Drenja, Tears of the Kingdom
