The Thunder Dragon's Lightning Round is unlocked after completing the third and final part of the Song of the Hero in Skyward Sword. There are two options offered in the Lightning Round. First is the ability to challenge any Boss you've previously fought. Second is the ability to face any Silent Realm Trial previously completed. There are a variety of rewards given for completing these challenges, ranging from small treasures, to large amounts of Rupees. The most notable rewards are a Piece of Heart, and the Hylian Shield.

During any boss challenge you are unable to use your pouch items. However, you are allowed to use them prior to entering a battle, such as the use of Potions. Every time Link sets a new record, or completes a battle/trial for the first time he is rewarded with 50 rupees. The Thunder Dragon's Lightning Round is located in Lanayru Gorge.
