There are many references in Zelda to Super Mario Bros. A lot of people know what Super Mario Bros. is. It used to be very popular, and some new installments to the series still are! The game is much like the original Legend of Zelda. You play a man named Mario and go through many different levels to rescue Princess Peach. Even Princess Zelda and Princess Peach share similar designs.

References to this game in Zelda

There are many references in Zelda to Super Mario Bros.

Similarities in the games

  • Well, for one, the originals both have the same storyline: Princess gets captured, you have to go rescue her by defeating the bad guy (Instead of Ganondorf, his name is Koopa [Also referred to as Bowser] and he's a large turtle reptile thing.) and...rescuing her!
  • Link and Mario are, you could say, similar. They both wear a hat and a strange kind of top -- for Link it's a tunic and for Mario it's overalls.

Differences in the game

  • There are two main differences in the game. The first is age. Link is only a child or teen, but Mario is a full-grown man -- you can tell by his mustache. The second difference is
  • Koopa is every boss. There's no one else. Whereas Ganonforf is usually only the final boss.

Discussion Questions

  • Why are there so many references to Mario in Zelda? Maybe it's because they were probably made by the same people.
  • Well, does that mean Mario was made before Zelda? Or was it not, because these references are only in later installments of Zelda?
