Piaffe is a character in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Breath of the Wild

Piaffe runs the Gerudo Canyon Stable, found at the end of the Gerudo Canyon Pass, just before entering the Gerudo Desert. He runs both the Stable and the Inn. When talking to Piaffe from outside, Link can take a horse, board a horse, or register a new horse.[1] From the inside of the stable, Link can talk to Piaffe to rent out a bed. Piaffe offers two types of beds, a regular bed for 20 rupees, and a Soft Bed for 40 rupees.[2]

Tears of the Kingdom

Piaffe can be found at the Gerudo Canyon Stable, but unfortunately, due to the conditions surrounding Gerudo Canyon, he has to close down the stable.[3] He mentions that Princess Zelda had given the order to stay away from the Gerudo Canyon Well. She had said she would be back to fix it, but she never returned. The stable needed the water from the well, as well as the mushrooms that grow inside.[4]

With the stable closed, Piaffe suggests that if Link is looking for a place to stay, he he should continue west to the Kara Kara Bazaar. While it is a bit of a hike, there is some transportation available at the desert's entrance.[5][6]

After clearing the boxes from the stable, Piaffe will welcomes Link, telling him to feel free to shelter from the weather inside the stable. While there are no more beds, Piaffe does say that Link can take shelter from the extreme weather that surrounds the stable.[7]

Piaffe, Packed Away

With the stable closed down, Piaffe has packed up much of the materials, leaving tons of Wooden Boxes within the stable. He can't just leave a mess, but doesn't know how to deal with all the stuff left at the stable.[8][9] This will begin the Piaffe, Packed Away quest.

Link can break some of the boxes in the stable to clear the way. As Link is doing so, he can speak to Piaffe, who notices the pile of junk is getting less massive. He encourages Link to take whatever he wants that are in the boxes.[10] After clearing all the boxes, Piaffe will be very grateful. He rewards Link by saying that he can be his final customer. Since Piaffe is still wearing the uniform and the stable is still standing, he will award Link with a Pony Point.[11]

Piaffe mentions that he still has a little bit of work left to do at the stable.[12] Piaffe notices the two frames on the walls. They were sent over by The Stable Association, but just got buried under all the junk.[13] He thinks that maybe a little art on the wall would be nice so that the stable's final days won't be so lonely.[14] This will complete the Piaffe, Packed Away quest.

After first completing Piaffe, Packed Away quest, one of the Regional Phenomena, and acquiring the Camera as part of the Camera Work in the Depths quest, Link can examine the empty picture frame on the wall in the stable. Piaffe will mention that The Stable Association asked them to hang the signs up to get ready for paintings to be put up.[15] Piaffe mentions that from the air, Spectacle Rock looks like it is smiling. Piaffe thinks that a painting of a smiling Spectacle Rock is the perfect thing needed to cheer things up here. Unfortunately, Piaffe is unable to fly, so he tasks Link with the objective.

Link can launch himself up from the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower and glide over to the East Gerudo Sky Archipelago. Specifically, Link wants to glide over to the large floating island with the Device Dispenser. While standing at the southwest end of this island, on the other side of the dispenser, Link can glance down at Spectacle Rock. There are floating rocks in the way, making a nose and amouth, which along with the two peaks of spectacle rock, make it look like a smiling face. Take a picture of Smiling Spectacle Rock. Return to the Gerudo Canyon Stable and show the picture to Piaffe. After telling him you have a picture of the grin on Spectacle Rock, he'll mention that it is exactly the picture he asked for. He thinks it will really liven up the look around here and asks if he can paint it on the wall.[16][17] After painting it on the canvas, he thanks Link by awarding him with a Pony Point, as well as some Chilly Mushroom Risotto, the specialty of the stable.[18][19] The picture reminds him of a time when the stable was full of smiles.[20]

Link can examine the second canvas on the wall. The Stable Association messed up and accidentally sent two frames to the Gerudo Canyon Stable. Piaffe would like to paint a picture of the giant sword that is on the peak of the Gerudo Highlands. He thinks it would make for the neat goodbye that the stbale deserves. However, he mentions that is it very cold up in the Gerudo Highlands.[21]

  10. "Sorry, but I need to focus on cleaning this place up for now... Whoah, what? Is the massive pile of junk getting less...massive? I wasn't sure what you were up to, truth be told, but clearly it was all part of masterfully removing that junk! You saved me! Thank you! I don't see any of this stuff, so feel free to take whatever you want!" — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
  11. "Sorry, but I need to focus on cleaning this place up for now... Whoah, huh? All that junk is just...gone? I wasn't sure what you were up to, truth be told, but clearly it was all part of masterfully removing that junk! You saved me! Thank you! I sort of let the junk pile build and build until it blocked the entrance, which was a real problem. There's still some work to be done, but thanks to you, I can get out of this place. That said, given that I'm wearing the uniform and this stable's still standing... would you be my final customer? OK! Welcome to Gerudo Canyon Stable! You, sire, have the honor of being the very last guest this stable will ever have! And that, dear customer, deserves commemoration... In the form of one Pony Point!" — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
  12. "Well, that appears to be the end of my time as a stablehand. It's been a pleasure, sir, and I sincerely hope your journey ahead is a fruitful one! Now then, I still have a little more junk to clear away, so I better get back to it. Thank you again for all your help!" — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
  13. "Hm? Oh, I forgot about those! The stable association sent us those frames a while back. They just sorta got buried under all the junk." — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
  14. "Let me just take off that wrapping... They're even nicer than I thought! Maybe a little art on the walls would be nice, just so the stable's final days don't have to be so lonely..." — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
  15. "Ah, Link, has that empty frame caught your eye? I was so focused on cleaning up, I completely forgot about these frames the Stable Association sent me! I owe this stable a lot. After all the good years it's given me, I'd like to put up something nice so it can go out in style. Y'know, I heard an interesting story from a Rito traveler who stopped by here once. There's this local attaction nearby—Spectacle Rock. Just check your map. The place is famous! And this traveler told me that while they were flying over Spectacle Rock, they glanced down and saw it smiling! That's what I want to frame. What could be better than sending the stable off with a smile? It's just a shame that I can't fly to capture that view for myself. But if I had even a picture of the smiling Spectacle Rock, I could copy it for the frame and cheer things up in here!" — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
  16. "Really?! You brought me both of the pictures I wanted? So, which one do I get to see first? The grin on Spectacle Rock or that massive sword?" — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
  17. "Aha! This is exactly the picture I asked for! This would really liven up the look around here. Is it OK if I paint a copy? Thank you! It really does look like it's smiling! Hee-hee... Every time I look at it, I smile too! Things got a little lonely around here once the stable closed, but having this here makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Now, just give me a moment to whip up a reproduction. Haha, don't worry! I'm quite good at this, I promise." — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
  18. "I knew it! It's perfect for this stable! And it's all thanks to you, Link. To show my appreciation, I'm giving you one Pony Point." — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
  19. "Oh yes, and please take this too! This dish is a stable specialty." — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
  20. "Yes... Yes, I knew this sight would be just the thing to cheery me up! Reminds me of when this place was full of smiles. Still, if you ever have a different picture of Spectacle Rock smiling, I'd be happy to copy it down and put it up instead. Just let me know ehn you want to see something else in this lovely frame!" — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
  21. "Oh, Link, did that picture fram pique your curiousity? It turns out the Stable Association sent me two frames by mistake. Kind of ironc, given we're about to close. But far be it from me to look a gift horse in the mouth. I might as well use the other frame to bid the stable farewell in style. I think a picture of the giant sword struck into a peak in the Gerudo Highlands is the neat goodbye this stable deserves. It's just northwest of here, but I won't be able to go see it. I have cleaning to do. Besides, it's COLD in the Gerudo Highlands... Even a copied picture of the giant sword would liven up this old place. " — Piaffe, Tears of the Kingdom
