Game Appearances

Ocarina of Time

Hylian Shield from Ocarina of Time

The player can find the Hylian Shield in a grave in the Graveyard at Kakariko Village, or buy it from the Bazaar in Castle Town or Kakariko Village for 80 rupees. Link can receive a discount at the Bazaar after giving Zelda's Letter to the soldier guarding the Death Mountain Trail. It is the second shield the player is able to receive in the game. Link can use it as Adult Link and Young Link. However, the shield is too big for Young Link, so when he uses it he keeps it strapped to his back and crouches down to defend from above. Adult Link uses it as a normal shield. Extra Hylian Shields can also be found scattered in treasure chests in dungeons, however if Link is already carrying a Hylian Shield it will be replaced with 5 Rupees. The design of the shield in Ocarina of Time is a little different then in other games, the design features a fourth triangle, the reason for this triangle is unknown, it may represent the light force as revealed in The Minish Cap however nothing official has been mentioned by Nintendo.

Twilight Princess

The player can buy it at Malo's shop for 200 rupees. It is the final shield that can be received in the game.

Skyward Sword

In Skyward Sword the Hylian Shield is obtained once the player mostly completes the Thunder Dragon's Lightning Round. This is the last shield in the game and is completely indestructible. Unlike previous shields in Skyward Sword, this one's durability meter will never decrease no matter how much it's used.

Trivia

The Fighters Shield in A Link to the Past is incredibly similar judging by the official artwork posted by Nintendo. This shield was probably the basis for the Hylian Shield. The Hero's Shield in Majora's Mask and The Wind Waker are both very similar also, being based off of the Hylian Shield.
