Dr. Left is a biologist who appears in Oracle of Seasons and The Minish Cap. In Oracle of Seasons, Dr. Left main subject of study are Cuccos, which is shown when he gives Link the Cuccodex, a book that, according to its description, took years of Cucco research to create. In The Minish Cap, his interest changed, to that of the Minish.

Oracle of Seasons

Dr. Left is a resident of Horon Village where he can be found doing his research in a house at the southeast corner of town. When Link first encounters Dr. Left, he is having trouble reading because of the dim light. He asks Link if he can light his fire. After Link acquires the Seed Satchel and Ember Seeds from the Gnarled Root Dungeon, he can light the torch in the room. Dr. Left thanks Link for doing so and gives him the Cuccodex. This is the first item in the trading sequence and is later traded for the Lon Lon Egg.

Link can return to Dr. Left at any point, and the biologist passes on an assortment of knowledge about a wide range of species that Link encounters along his journey. All of his knowledge begins with the same phrase, "My books tell me...". A list of his statements can be found below.

• My books tell me of a branch of Deku Scrubs that engages in trade. They're called Business Scrubs.
• My books tell me there is a beast called a Whisp that jinxes you when you touch it. You won't be able to draw your sword!
• My books tell me there have been sightings of a Deku Scrub that loves music.
• My books tell me there is a beast that eats shields.

The Minish Cap

Dr. Left is found in the West part of Hyrule Town. In the beginning of the game, his door is locked and if you attempt entry, he'll say "What is all of this!? I'm busy, don't you see that? Do not disturb my research! If you have no business, begone! You heard me!” His house is accesible though by entering a Minish Sized Hole at the front of his house. but there is nothing inside except for another Minish Sized Hole that will lead you to the room of a Town Picori. After you have completed the Fortress of Winds and have accessed the library in Hyrule Town, his door will be opened so you can complete the quest to return the three overdue library books. In order to collect the overdue book in his house, you need the Power Bracelets and the White Sword.

• Dr. Left is based on the character from Link's Awakening, Mr. Write. Who, in turn, is based on Dr. Wright from SimCity SNES, named after, and his physical appearance based on, the Sim City series creator Will Wright.
