Mido is the rude and jealous boss of Kokiri, he is jealous of Link because Saria and the Great Deku Tree, other high-ranking members of the Kokiri Forest, choose Link over him.
He makes Link buy a Kokiri Sword and a Deku Shield before visiting the Great Deku Tree because he doesn't think "Mr. No-Fairy" can handle what the tree has to offer.
When Link is adult, and both leave, Mido learns the error of his ways, and tells adult Link to forgive young Link if he sees him, he is unaware that Link and the person he wants to forgive are the same person.
