The Cannon Game is a mini-game found in Phantom Hourglass. The game is run by Salvatore and it can be played on Bannan Island.

Location

The game is located at Bannan Island, which can be found in the northeast of the Northwestern Sea. It can be reached by entering the cave and blowing up a cracked wall using a Bomb.[1] On the east side of the island, Link will find Salvatore sitting at his table. The game itself costs 20 Rupees to play.[2]

Objective

The objective is to use the S.S. Linebeck's cannon to shoot various targets to score points. The ship sails on its own, meaning Link has to wait for the targets to move into range.[3] Shooting a blue target will destroy it in one hit and net Link 100 points.[4] Red targets will not be destroyed and can thus be shot multiple times, netting 20 points each hit.[5]

Strategy

Continuous adjustment of the camera allows for upcoming targets to come into view and be hit as early as possible. Blue targets do not need to be hit early, as they only offer points one time. Link can jump with the ship and shoot the cannon at the apex of the jump for extra distance, allowing red targets to be hit earlier. After 13 targets, each subsequent target will either rotate or move up and down, making them slightly harder to hit. After passing the Sea Traps separating the two halves of the game's path (or 15 targets) a larger gap between targets is placed on the ship's left. During this time, the only target on the right side of the ship can be hit for additional points. A total of 24 targets are set up during the game, 13 red and 11 blue targets. As such, in addition to every blue target, Link must hit red targets a total of 70 times to win the best prize.

Rewards

After finishing a game, Salvatore will set up 3 Treasure Chests, each containing a random prize. Depending on the number of points reached, Link will get a different reward. The first time Link reaches 2,500 points, any treasure chest will contain a Bomb Bag Upgrade, allowing him to carry 10 additional Bombs. Otherwise, the prize will consist either of Rupees, Treasure, or a Ship Part, corresponding to the amount of points reached. Every time Link sets a new record, an additional Red Rupee is awarded directly by Salvatore after opening a treasure chest.

Notes

After playing the mini-game and waiting at least 24 hours, the Postman will deliver a letter from Salvatore, which contains a Wisdom Gem.
