Purpen is a character found in Tears of the Kingdom.

Purpen can be found at the First Gatehouse just outside of Hyrule Castle. He is examining different weapons and has found that all the weapons he has come across have suddenly decayed due to the Upheaval.[1][2] Purpen has traveled to many different regions throughout Hyrule and the results are all the same. All the weapons have decayed.[3]
He suggests that they are too much of a pain to repair and it's best to just strengthen them instead, which Link can do using his Fuse ability.[4]
In the First Gatehouse, Purpen is examining a Soldier's Spear and a Soldier's Broadsword that are on display. Elsewhere, next to his tent, there is a Cooking Pot with a Soup Ladle. After Link speaks with Captain Hoz and Toren, where they spot Zelda in the distance, Purpen will wonder what all the commotion is. For a moment he thinks that maybe they found a weapon that was still intact, but quickly realized that wasn't possible.[5]
Purpen later appears as part of Hoz's Squad and participates in the Bring Peace to Hyrule Field! battle. In the leadup to the battle, Link can speak with Purpen, but is quickly interupted by Hoz, as this is not a good time to distract the fighters.[6] During the battle, Purpen will comment that he wants to have a horse, just like the captains.[7][8]
