Nell is a character from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Breath of the Wild

Nell can be found south of Akkala Citadel Ruins, fighting a Blue Moblin. When the monster is defeated, he thanks Link for his help and rewards him with a Fireproof Elixir[1] then tells him about the failed battle against the Guardians that took place 100 years ago.[2] Like himself, some of his kin were Hylian Soldiers; Nell recounts that he learned some of them fell during the decisive battle for Akkala Citadel. This prompted him to go there and pray for them.[3] However, the presence of active Guardians has him stay clear of the former Citadel itself, since he's never heard of anyone escaping their sights.[4][5]

Tears of the Kingdom

Despite the massive recruitment effort for warriors, Nell has been drawn to a different calling: the Zonai Survey Team. He finds himself stationed at Outskirt Stable surveying a floating island in the sky.[6] His following dialogue differs depending on whether it's daytime[7][8][9] or nighttime.[10][11][12] He is referring to a floating island with Luminous Ore Deposits and his dialogue is a call-out to how they glow only at night, indicating that distinguishing them during the daytime would be challenging.

Trivia

  • Nell is one of only three Hylian Soldiers in Breath of the Wild, alongside Hoz and Savelle. In Tears of the Kingdom, he and Savelle have both joined the Zonai Survey Team, leaving Hoz as the only remaining Soldier from this trio.

  1. "Nell", Th-thanks... That monster was more than I bargained for. I'm a dab hand with a blade, but you...Well, my hat is off to you, boy. Here, take this for your help.
  2. "Nell", I came out this way to search for this citadel. Can't believe I made it so close, only to have to turn back now...That's the Akkala Citadel Ruins. Long ago, at the peak of Hyrule's power, they built a fortress to protect Akkala. It was said to be unassailable, but during the Great Calamity, Hyrule Castle fell...The army had no royalty to lead them. With no other choice, they fell back to this citadel to make to make their last stand. Sadly, a concentrated assault from the out-of-control Guardians spelled the end of this fortress too. In a real sense, the Kingdom of Hyrule met its doom here.
  3. "Nell", I found out my own kin died in that battle, so I came to at least pray at the spot where they fell.
  4. "Nell", But it turns out that the old Guardians are still active, so this is as far as I go. I've never heard of anyone else escaping a Guardian's sights, at least. You don't look reckless enough to chance it, but be on your guard in these hills all the same.
  5. "Nell", When you look at these massive structures and ruined cities...you really get a sense of what we lost. I wish I could get a closer look, but I don't have a death wish. If you're headed for the citadel, be very careful.
  6. "Nell", Unless I'm mistaken, I think it was over there...wasn't it?
  7. "Nell", Ah, sorry. I'm a bit preoccupied trying to make out something I saw glowing in the sky to the southeast. But I can't see it now.
  8. "Nell", It was glowing. I know it was. Maybe it'll come back once it gets dark...
  9. "Nell", Sorry again. Lost in thought. I have a duty to report anything about sky islands to Kakariko Village in Necluda to the east.
  10. "Nell", Now, that is just far too big to be a star...isn't it?
  11. "Nell", Ah, sorry. There's something glowing in the sky in the southeast, and I'm determined to find out what it is. It's obviously beyond the scope, or even the reach, of a field survey. No, my eyes probe the sky. I have a duty to report anything about sky islands to our group in Kakariko Village off in Necluda to the east.
  12. "Nell", Could it have possibly...been a bird? No, impossible. Birds don't glow.
