The Great Deku Tree is a legendary character in the Zelda series. He is often part of the main motivation for Link to begin his travels and strive to help Hyrule.
Ocarina of Time
In Ocarina of Time, the Great Deku Tree is charged with watching over Link as he grows up, until Link is ready to begin his journey.
The Great Deku Tree is also the character that gives us a big look into the creation of Hyrule. He tells us many things about the creation, such as the story of the Golden Goddesses, how Hyrule was created, and how many things came to be. However, his version is only a legend, so it may, or may not, be completely accurate.
