"Only one man is born every hundred years.."

Gerudo

The Gerudo are a reccuring race of desert people situated in the Gerudo Valley. They are an entirely female race with the exception of one male being born every hundred years according to legend. It's told in the game that they go to the Castle Town to find boyfriends, but only to breed so that the tribe can survive. They are a race of thieves in Ocarina of Time and have a giant fortress called Gerudo's Fortress. In Majora's Mask, though, they are referred as "pirates" and they try to collect all of the Zora Eggs; they attempt to enter the Great Bay Temple. Their fortress, or area they live in, is surrounded by guards that throw Link out if caught; in Ocarina of Time they throw Link into a small cell.

In the Zelda series the Gerudo are generally depicted as evil. In fact Ganondorf , the series main antagonist, is a Gerudo. Although Nabooru actually rebels against Ganondorf. Only in the game Four Swords Adventures is the entire Gerudo tribe friendly. However they become friendly in Ocarina of Time after Link rescues the Carpenters and earns respect from the Gerudo. They have weapons and are aggressive in both games.

Culture

They are a dark toned race of mostly females with the exception of one male being born every one hundred years, That male according to legend is supposed to be their king. However Nabooru rebelled against her king in Ocarina of Time, The king was Ganondorf. The Gerudo females usually are dressed in purple dresse, have red hair and weild sword like weapons. They seem to not like Hylian culture all and the realtions with Hylian men are purely for survival reasons. The Gerudos seem to think that worshipping the Golden Godesses and having gender roles is out of the ordinary.

They always live together as a pack in big forts and worship the godess of the Sand, They have built a huge monument for her in teh desert and a Spirit Temple.

Known members of the Gerudo

Trivia

  • The desert in Twilight Princess is named after them but ironically enough there are no Gerudo in the game, The Camps in the desert are populated by bokoblins.
