The Gerudo is a recurring race of humans that are first introduced in Ocarina of Time. The most prominent trait of the Gerudos is most of the race consists of females, while one male is born every hundred years.

The Gerudo as a race/tribe have currently been featured in three games. However, the main villain of the series, Ganondorf, is a Gerudo and it is arguably correct to say they appeared in nearly every game.

Culture

They are a dark toned race of mostly females with the exception of one male being born every one hundred years. That male according to legend is supposed to be their king. However, Nabooru rebelled against her king in Ocarina of Time, the king being Ganondorf. The Gerudo females usually are dressed in purple attire, have red hair and wield sword like weapons. They seem to not like Hylian culture at all all and the relations with Hylian men are purely for survival reasons. The Gerudos seem to think that worshipping the Golden Godesses and having gender roles is out of the ordinary.

Appearances

Ocarina of Time

In Ocarina of Time, the Gerudo live in the Gerudo Desert, specifically Gerudo Valley, which is located in the northwest of Hyrule. It's told in the game that they go to the Castle Town to find boyfriends. They are a race of thieves in Ocarina of Time and have a giant fortress called Gerudo's Fortress. They always live together as a pack in big forts and worship the Godess of the Sand. They have built a huge monument for her in the desert as well as a Spirit Temple.

Majora's Mask

In Majora's Mask, though, they are referred as "pirates" and they try to collect all of the Zora Eggs; they attempt to enter the Great Bay Temple. Their fortress, or area they live in, is surrounded by guards that throw Link out if caught; in Ocarina of Time they throw Link into a small cell.

Four Swords Adventures

Only in the game Four Swords Adventures is the entire Gerudo tribe friendly. In said game, their abode is located in the Desert of Doubt. Link's passage through Gerudo Village is initially halted by closed gates. This is due to Ganondorf passing to try to claim the power of the sacred Pyramid for himself in direct violation of the Gerudo law code. However, they become friendly in Ocarina of Time after Link rescues the Carpenters and earns respect from the Gerudo.
